I was doing strikes yesterday and 2 dudes raced past the public area. Then a public event happened, and im sure they werent notified because they had already loaded into the next area. The best part is one of the low lvl mobs dropped a legendary. So they missed the shard from the PE, and the chance at that purple. All while racing to the finish to collect that one blue

  • How do you know the engram wasn't mailed to them?

  • They werent in the area when it dropped. They had already loaded into a restricted zone. I doubt they would get credit for any of that

  • So your 0.5% chance of getting that single legendary is greater than their getting 2 rares? I don't think so, mate. -- Simple math man. Your chance at getting that engram was/is not a guarantee, it was luck. Their getting those 2 rares is a guarantee. Given the opportunity would you rather farm for 10 hours for a legendary? Or do 20 matches for the same chance to roll a legendary and get 80-100 rares?

You get the rares no matter what tho. I got the rares even tho i showed up to the first area 1-2 minutes after them. You lower your chances of getting stuff by not killing. The level 6 mobs drop with like 2 shots. Its not like it saves a ton of time

  • That's precisely the point. If you take 15 minutes to stop and farm, you've now added half of a strike just for a CHANCE at getting an engram vs. a guarantee. This is about a chance vs. the guarantee. Your guarantee takes 30 minutes. Your chance takes 15. In the time that you farm, I could be half way through another strike already, with the same % chance of getting an engram by killing things I actually HAVE to kill. If you want to stall for 15 minutes and smell the roses, do so at your own peril. Per the math, itself, the guarantee is superior to a random chance at farming an open area...

Im not talking farming. Im saying take one minute to kill 1 wave of enemies directly in your path. And who wouldnt take a PE if it happens to show during that minute If you're so pressed for time that you cant do that then you maybe picked the wrong genre of game

  • Them getting 2 rares is also nothing more than chance because if one or both of the rares are already decryped Blue's they're useless to a high level player. Alot of the time you also get shaders that you already have as well. It's all chance and so why pass up getting as many chances as you can in a set amount of time.

Statistically speaking, it doesn't matter what they decrypt as. It's a guaranteed blue engram. Most people get 2 or 3. The same chance of getting a legendary exists in that random as it does within the game...The difference is that there's a guarantee. You can stop and farm for 20 minutes if you choose make that 30 minute strike into a 50 because you wanted to test your chances...But, your chance doesn't change, it's statistically less than a % chance of getting a legendary...10% or so of getting an engram at all. By the time you finish that farm, I've done 2 Strikes, I have 4/5/6 engrams...You have 0. - Which method was more effective? This really isn't a hard decision...This is grade-school level arithmetic.

  • What I'm saying is you don't always get two blue Engrams on the end game roll. A lot of times at least one or both of those blues are items already decrypted and so you can't do anything with them but dismantle.

  • I do and always have. The point is that even 1 guarantee is better than a "chance" at nothing. PS I am a high level player and they're not useless to me. If you want to take 15 minutes and farm an open area, that's fine but, do it on your own time because a guarantee, especially with these %'s is always better than a chance at getting nothing. Statistics are statistics, they don't lie...

  • You do not always get two blue Engrams or even ALWAYS one because it's not even possible. And I don't think anyone here suggested taking 15 minutes to farm an open area either.

  • Again, I have ALWAYS since the last patch, had 1/2/3 or 3 blue engrams. It doesn't matter what you're suggesting, you're taking TIME (which is the key here) to farm an area that has a 10% chance of ANY engram, a 0.5% chance or less of a legendary engram compared to a GUARANTEED rare 2/3 at the end of the strike. Do the math...Seriously, a toddler could do this. The longer you take to farm that CHANCE, you're taking time from the guarantee. The more guarantees I have, the more engrams I get. I've been on missions where an individual has taken 10 minutes on Mars to clear each area -- It's unnecessary and you're making a 25 minute run into a 50 minute run... A guarantee is better than a chance when you're working with these percentages, period. Do the math yourself.

It takes seconds to clear most of the Mobs, an extra 5 minutes added onto the Strike that stands to net you an extra 1-2 blue Engrams at least to go along with the end game roll. If you were cave farming that is an efficient turnover ratio.

  • It takes TIME to farm for a chance vs a guarantee. Your opinion is that it takes seconds, that's incorrect. Even on the Tiger Strike of Mars, most people skip the first room, kill the generals, tank and then the room + boss, they skip the rest. That run, with a solid group takes 20 minutes. - I've heard of it being done by 30's in 15. Your 5 minutes is 1/4 the time it takes me on average to run that mission for guaranteed engrams. You're statistically wasting my time. There's no argument to be had that's mathematically sound because per the math, you're wrong. Your farming isn't mathematically worth my time. - That's a fact. Do the math yourself. The bottom line is that killing every single mob in the run, is a total and complete waist of time compared to the guaranteed prospect of 1/2/3 rare engrams with the same % chance of rolling a legendary. Disprove the math for me if you want to retort because your argument is a straw man until you do so.

  • If you got only one Blue engram out of that extra 5 minutes which is 1/4th of your time it takes you to get 1-2 blue Engrams from the end game roll that math is statistically sound and I rarely go more than 1 Strike at most without getting blue Engrams from Mob drops.

  • It's actually not. Per the math that others have done, each mob gives you a 10% chance of an engram. Of that 10% chance is a 60/25/15 conservatively. That means that you have a 2.5% chance per mob of getting a blue engram to drop. Compared to my 100% chance, 200% chance or 300% chance at the end of the mission. Statistically speaking, your argument dies, right there. Per the Mars mission, itself, you have about 80 mobs, that gives you a CHANCE, statistically speaking of 2%., however, when you take the extra 5 minutes to farm, you've now increased that % value to 2.5 but, you've also added 1/4 of the time it takes thus ultimately costing you...Thus overall, lowering your chances at an engram if you're doing multiple strikes. Say I do 4 strikes in a row, all take 20 minutes and you choose to farm sporadically for 5 minutes a run. You've now cost me 1/2/3 engrams because you've taken up an entire strike, farming for nothing. You won't win this discussion statistically speaking because the numbers don't support you and you're welcome to your opinion but, mathematically, you do NOT have a better chance at an engram by farming...You have a better chance of an engram by completing the mission in a timely manner.
