Plants don't have actual nerve cells, but they have electro-chemical signals transmitted by "nerve" cells. So basically, they can do what animals do, even though they don't have a true nervous system. Also, no, I'm not trying to troll.

Also, this does not make them remotely comparable to animals -- or humans -- as far as ethical implications are concerned. And it certainly doesn't imply they feel pain. How you came to this conclusion I have no idea.
Maybe not so much feel pain, as I was wrong in saying that, but they can tell when they are being eaten/"under attack" and do respond defensively.

Your choice of words is rather bamboozling. An organism's biological reaction does not imply the organism itself can "tell" anything. You are implying a form of awareness similar to consciousness in humans and animals.
And as I said, this does not entail any of the ethical imperatives we have toward animals be extended to plants.
