All weapons damage "cap" is determined by the impact rating. When you upgrade the damage it just increases your hit rating which allows you to ignore more defense from the target. However damage is normalized when firing at a level 8 mob while you are level 28, never letting you 1 shot someone or something that is 20 levels below you. The amount of health a level 8 player has (red bar) is a lot smaller than a level 28 player has. Also, defense doesn't start coming into play until your shield is down. (Which is The same across all levels) So in other words dealing 24 damage to a level 8 is a lot more damage being done compared to doing 24 damage to a level 28.

  • This is how you'd hope that it works. However, after spending a couple of hours shooting people with a brand new Titan using the starting Khvostov for 19 damage a hit, I can say it takes about the same amount of shots to kill a level 29 in Iron Banner as it does when I use my lvl 27 Warlock with a Suros Regime.

  • "About" Isn't "exact"

  • Cool, so 19 damage per hit is "about" the same as 249 damage per hit on the same target then. Now your math makes sense.

  • no, what I am saying you used the word "about" Also, take your suros and fight a level 8 mob, notice your damage? Good, it's normalized. You can't 1 shot a level 1 enemy with a body shot with a 300 damage weapon that is a fully auto weapon it takes 3 body shots to kill a level 1, and 3 body shots to kill a level 28 if you are a 28. Next, realize that you are doing 24 damage on a person with less health, not shield. The way you compare is take that level 1 machine gun, use it on a level 4 character, then use it on a level 28. If the damage per shot is the exact same, it's cause the impact/rof is the exact same. The stats on your suros are not exactly the same as the level 1 weapon.

  • No, it really works that way.

  • Oh okay, ignore all of the evidence then and just stick to your estimate "WiseOne".

  • So what is the health difference then? And I have to say, I hate this whole "the red is your health, the white is shield" crap. So does defense only matter on health? Give me numbers Bungie! This is supposed to be part RPG right, why he hell do we not see our health number? You give us this arbitrary defense stat, that I am still convinced is a lie even in PVE, or at least so convoluted that it seems useless. The only numbers that seem to have any meaning is light level ( a dumb way to make leveling into an rng nightmare if you ask me, and a bad way to make "gear score") and the stats that reduce cool downs. I am not saying you are wrong Wiseone, I just want things to be more clear.
