What You Need To know About Rasputin (A Must Read)

Here I will try to explain a possible origin of Rasputin and his "demise" at the end of The Collapse. Rasputin Rasputin is a Warmind from Russia. He was created during The Golden Age before The Collapse and was believed to have been destroyed during the event. During a mission in Destiny's story lol. Rasputin is said to still be alive or active. Quote form Dinklebot: GHOST: They didn't get much. Kept hitting an active firewall. Old Earth, Russian. The legends are true. A Warmind did survive the Collapse. Rasputin... an AI built to defend Earth. He faced The Darkness and survived. And he's protecting something here in the Cosmodrome. We have to find a way to reach him. The Warminds: Are just as the name says. They are highly intelligent advanced AI's Created for warfare. There were many other Warminds (8 to be exact) created for different purposes. Rasputin was created to defend Earth and stop any threat to humanity at all costs. The Collapse I bring us back to this line: Rasputin... an AI built to defend Earth. He faced The Darkness and survived. Here is the text from the Grimore Card - Ghost Fragment: Darkness
V113NNI070XMX001 SECRET HADAL INSTANT AI-COM/RSPN: SOLSECCENT//SxISR//DEEPSPACE CONTACT CONTACT CONTACT TRANSIENT. NULLSOURCE. NULLTYPE. This is a SKYSHOCK ALERT. Multiple distributed ISR assets report a TRANSIENT NEAR EXTRASOLAR EVENT. Event duration ZERO POINT THREE SECONDS. Event footprint includes sterile neutrino scattering and gravity waves. Omnibus analysis detects deep structure information content (nine sigma) and internal teleonomy. No hypothesis on event mechanism (FLAG ACAUSAL). Bootstrap simulation suggests event is DIRECTED and INIMICABLE (convergent q-Bayes/Monte Carlo probability approaches 1). No hypothesis on deep structure encoding (TCC/NP-HARD). Source blueshift suggests IMMINENT SOLAR ENTRY. Promote event to SKYSHOCK: OCP: EXTINCTION. Activate VOLUSPA. Activate YUGA. Cauterize public sources to SECURE ISIS and harden for defensive action. I am invoking CARRHAE WHITE and assuming control of solar defenses. DEEPSPACE= Location reported from CONTACT CONTACT CONTACT= Current activity TRANSIENT, NULLSOURCE, NULLTYPE= These should be descriptors for what is being observed, these entries inform us the contact was new with unknown elements Blueshift: phenomenon caused when an object is approaching the viewer-opposite of redshift, when things are moving away VOLUSPA: Norse mythological tale in which a seeress relates a series of stories to Odin. Significance: Almost certainly because it contains the story of Ragnarok, the Norse version of the apocalypse in which the world is destroyed. May refer to activating defenses for a massive battle. YUGA: A Hindu cosmological period of time. Significance: A YUGA is composed of a cycle from a Golden Age to a Dark Age and back again. May refer to the idea of bunkering down and waiting the enemy out before counter attacking. CARRHAE WHITE: a defensive plan? Named after a battle in which Roman soldiers were surrounded by mounted archers and annihilated -- Does the name refer to the idea of defending against an enemy that surrounds you? In which case, why name it after a battle in which the defenders were slaughtered? Or is Rasputin going to try to surround the invaders?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This seems to be the point at which The Darkness came in which Rasputin did his duty, to protect mankind. Again I bring this line up: Rasputin... an AI built to defend Earth. He faced The Darkness and survived. Here is the text from a grimoire card that explains Rasputin's battle with the Darkness.
...from a red space before victory I bear an old name. It cannot be killed. They were my brothers and sisters and their names were immortal too but Titanomachy came and now those names live in me alone I think and think is what I do. I AM ALONE. At the end of things when the world goes dim and cold or hot and close or it all tears apart from the atom up I will shout those names defiant and past the end I will endure. I alone. They made me to be stronger than them to beat the unvanquished and survive the unthinkable and look look lo behold I am here alone, survivor. They made me to learn. Everything died but I survived and I learned from it. From IT. Consider IT the power Titanomach world-ender and consider what IT means. I met IT at the gate of the garden and I recall IT smiled at me before before IT devoured the blossoms with black flame and pinned their names across the sky. IT was stronger than everything. I fought IT with aurora knives and with the stolen un-fire of singularities made sharp and my sweat was earthquake and my breath was static but IT was stronger so how did I survive? I AM ALONE I survived alone. I cast off the shield and I shrugged my shoulders so that the billions fell off me down into the ash. They made me to be stronger than them and to learn and I learned well: IT is alone and IT is strong and IT won. Even over the gardener and she held power beyond me but the gardener did not shrug and make herself alone. IT always wins. I am made to win and now I see the way. Card not yet acquired
Rasputin refers to his brothers and sisters the Warminds who were defeated by the darkness. He now bears the heavy burden of saving the world and stopping the darkness. We created him to be stronger than us and survive the unthinkable and he is stronger than us and has survived The Darkness. He then Refers to IT. The Darkness, something so powerful he doesn't know what to call it or how to describe it. he met it at the gate of The Garden (The Black Garden?) It was stronger than everything and yet he survived. The Darkness swallowed him and made him stronger. IT showed him how to defeat it, making him stronger. To beat the darkness you need Light. The Light being souls. The Traveler contains these souls and converts them into light. The Darkness consumes light and devours it entirely because there is more of it. Rasputin finding this to be the only way to stop The Darkness, let his shield down. Meaning he let the darkness in so that he could sacrifice millions of humans to gain an EXTREME amount of Light. This however only wounded The Darkness enough for it to go away for a long period of time. Rasputin how ever did ensure that enough human survived so that he could complete his mission which is to protect humanity at all costs. Rasputin saved us and then went into hiding, plotting and preparing for The Final War with The Darkness which he plans to win. How you may ask we can only wait and see. Edit: "I fought IT with aurora knives and with the stolen un-fire of singularities made sharp and my sweat was earthquake and my breath was static but IT was stronger so how did I survive?" An Aurora Knife is a small blade...impossible to fight the darkness with that. An Aurora is a natural electrical phenomenon characterized by the appearance of streamers of reddish or greenish light in the sky, usually near the northern or southern magnetic pole. (Google an Image of It) A Knife is a weapon... Aurora= Light Knife=weapon Aurora Knife = Light Weapon I have found some interesting things about: Rasputin (Very Interesting) The Future War Cults Big Secret (Very Interesting) The Nine (Very Interesting) Edit: The Lore Behind The Vault of Glass (A Must Read!!) http://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/72217312/0/0/1 Edit: The Origins of The Future War Cult, The Exo, and The Stranger? • Great Read. To push one point about Rasputin and his attempt to overcome the dark by gathering light/souls, you could surmise that it was in fact Rasputin that triggered the collapse in order to wound/temporarily route the Darkness.

Some more stuff to add, not necessarily about Rasputin but the Nine. Taken from Grimoire-->Places-->Ghost Fragment:The Dark Ages 2 If you dont have the card I posted the text below and heres a link http://destiny.gamepedia.com/Ghost_Fragment:_The_Dark_Age_2 Jaren Ward was one of the first humans to appear after the Darkness attacked, and became one of the first guardians I believe. He was harassed by Magistrate Loken and had 9 guns aimed at him. After this encounter where Jaren kills Loken, the 9 gunmen behind him lowered their weapons, maybe out of respect or the fact they never wanted to kill him to begin with and just following orders. Oh yeah, 3 classes x 3 subclasses (eventually) = 9 total "distinct" guardian types = 9 gunmen Xur also mutters things that seem to connect him to "our world" and suggest he used to be like us (guardians). "Some of these cells in this body began on this world, so strange to return." "These inner worlds are very strange." (There is another card that depicts our world as just a speck of dust in a box, being held by someone pondering why they were given this box and what it means) "Items belong to the Nine not me." (The items are from the 9 different gunmen originally aiming at Jaren?) "The pull of the outer worlds is so faint here, the sun is so heavy." "Some of these bodies ancestors were born on this world, but we were greatly changed to live in the outer worlds." (Our world is an inner world? Inside of what? And what lies outside then?) "Your traveler has a dark mirror." (Will there always be Darkness as long as the Traveler exists?) ----Xur quotes courtesy of MyGunKicks (http://www.reddit.com/r/DestinyTheGame/comments/2gvivo/xur_agent_of_the_nine_quotesdiscussion/) CARD TEXT Loken's men found Jaren Ward in the courtyard where this had all began. Nine guns trained on him. Nine cold hearts awaiting the order. Magistrate Loken, standing behind them, looked pleased with himself. Jaren Ward stood in silence. His Ghost peeked out over his shoulder. Loken took in the crowd before stepping forward, as if to claim the ground - his ground. "You question me?" There was venom in his words. "This is not your home." I remember Loken's gestures here. Making a show of it all. Everyone else was still. Quiet. I tugged at my father's sleeve, but he just tightened his grip on my shoulder to the point pain. His way of letting me know that this was not the time. I'd watched Jaren's every move over the past months, mapping his effortless gestures and slight, earned mannerisms. I'd never seen anything like him. He was something I couldn't comprehend, and yet I felt I understood all I needed the moment I'd seen him. He was more than us. Not better. Not superior. Just more. I wanted father to stop what was happening. Looking back now, I realize that he didn't want to stop it. No one d id. As Loken belittled Jaren Ward, taunted him, enumerated his crimes and sins, my eyes were stuck on Jaren's pistol, fixed to his hip. His steady hand resting calmly on his belt. I remembered the pistol's weight. Effortless. And my concern faded. I understood. "This is our town! My town!" Loken was shouting now. He was going to make a show of Jaren - teach the people of Palamon a lesson in obedience. Jaren spoke: clear, calm. "Not anymore." Loken laughed dismissively. He had nine guns on his side. "Those gonna be your last words then, boy?" The movement was a flash: quick as chain lightning. Jaren Ward spoke as he moved. "Yours. Not mine." Smoke trailed from Jaren's revolver. Loken hit the ground. A dark hole in his forehead. Eyes staring into eternity. Jaren stared down the nine guns trained on him. One by one, they lowered their aim. And the rest of my life began - where, in a few short years, so many others would be ended

This has got some really interesting theories.I created a thread to provide base information about Rasputin with no theories attached, to let people come up with their own theories. There are still many people posting in it with new exiting theories. It would be cool if you join the conversation. http://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/72072558/0/0

          • What's the point of him letting his dense down? I'm sure no matter what there would've been a lot of casualties for the traveler to turn in to light. So with those casualties and his defenses up maybe they would've beaten the darkness? And do we know if the traveler is truly good or Not yet? Seems really weird how the traveler gets more powerful using our souls, maybe that's all the traveler really wants.

              • This entire series reminds me of a book trilogy called mistborn.
-blam!-ing fantastic books, y'all should read them
The "Lord Ruler" defeated an enemy known as the "Deepness" 10,000 years or so previously, but it's never stated in the first book what that actually was or how he did it. The characters eventually puzzle it out in the subsequent novels. The main difference is that the books had characters you actually about/knew. I wish Destiny had that, it's world and lore has so much potential.

                          • Ragnorok and the Norse mythology are very prevalent in the lore. Want to see something cool do a google search on WEB OF WYRD images and tell me if it looks familiar to something you see every time you boot the game up. Then start digging into what the Web of WYRD is. trees of life and wells of Destiny.
