I believe that matchmaking can be fit for raids if a leader system is implemented. The idea goes like this:
Since raids require a lot of communication and direction in order to complete, a group of random people will have A LOT of trouble getting through. Especially if they haven't done any research. The VOG has mechanics in it that unless you know exactly how they work, the progress you make will only be made with luck and intuition.
However, if a leader is in the team, he/she can lead the team to victory through communication, information, and cooperation. Just last night I joined up with five other people randomly found through clans. Me and one other guy had any idea what was going on, and the checkpoint was at Atheon. The other guy didn't know all that much, but enough to quickly grasp info I was feeding him. With a small briefing in orbit and a few directions during the fight, I was able to relay all the information everyone needed and position everyone correctly to the point that we were able to switch out members going in and staying outside the portal and still have a steady, working run. Over the course of about 45 minutes, we finally slayed Atheon and reaped our rewards.
I'm not trying to toot my own horn, but those guys didn't stand much of a chance without me unless they all started youtubing what to do. Even then it probably would've been a mess. Point being, if a leader is placed into a matchmade team of randoms, coming out victorious will be more than a possibility, they'll stand a fighting chance.
Down to the nitty gritty, the leader system and matchmaking system could go something like this:
Leader requirements:
Completed the specific raid 2-3 times. Last raid completed needs to be under a certain time limit.
Mic
Not been booted due to mutiny within a day
Maybe have to take a quiz on the raid's mechanics
Team requirements:
3-4 hours of free time
Cooperative
The matchmaking system should have plenty of options for each person. Team members should be able to invoke mutiny in case of a bad leader. Leaders should be able to kick unfriendly or uncooperative team members. Leader should also be able to choose if they require a mic for their team members.
The idea isn't solid, but I think it's a good foundation. Just like Destiny. Lol
Feel free to criticize and build on the idea. We all want Destiny to be better.

The leader must have complet, no. They need a matchmaker that can drop randoms in if a player drops out. They have it now for Vanguard strikes. I started a strike with two that dropped out. I was solo for the first ten minutes. Two randoms dropped in. It worked, and we ran two more together. If players want to use the matchmaker that's their decision. They go into it knowing its a gamble. You do realize that everyone has a first time in the raid. The first group that did it. Had to do it with no vids, no knowledge of what to expect. They learned as they went. I will agree that communication is key. This game lacks communication everywhere. A mic, and a specific level must be a requirement. Now. If we had a Partyfinder in the game. We could make our own groups. Just like here, but in the game. We post what we need or want. It is seen server / system wide. Parties can be made for everything. Bungie needs to do something. Players are frustrated. Players will leave. I have not run the raid. I will soon. My clan is small. Only three of us will go. We will use Destinylfg. How freaking sad is that. This is supposed to be a " next gen" game. Get with the program Bungie! You look bad, real bad.
