Let me tell you that in terms of PvE, a level 14 with a rare that they found could probably kill a pack of low level trash as competently. VM body shots in PvE - the damage was absolutely embarrassing and disgusting. Critical hits are even an embarrassment in terms of the damage output against creatures; not to mention that Minotaurs have no weak spots. I might as well pull out my Stranger's Rifle (the one with the full auto upgrade that you get for finishing the game) against non fire shielded mobs, because it could probably outdo the VM in PvE now, or atleast come close. Did Bungie even test out the numbers in PvE, before they so obnoxiously released the hotfix titled "[i]The One About Mythoclast[/i]", as if though we would all jump up elated and applaud them for their ability to simply throw a massive percentage based nerf.
