While your solutions are great, you have to admit that these changes would require a lot of A.I. changes to the enemy scripts during this fight, nortto mention hours and hours of playtesting. I guess, from a devs view, this was the easiest solution.
Personally I don't have a problem with that fix. Today me and my group completed the Raid and we did it, like always, the normal way, jumping down and kickin' A$$es.

Yes, absolutely. If the Kill Volume is just a temporary solution until they work out something better, that is something I can get behind. But the Hotfix notes say nothing about it being a temporary fix, they only discuss the change that was made. A lot of mobs already increase their grenade use at higher difficulties. The Nexus already has a Praetorian/Minotaur spawning for people camping up top. Hobgoblins with ranged weapons already exist. These are all arrows that exist in Bungie's quiver already. I can't imagine it would be overly complex to adapt mechanics they have already built into the Templar encounter. But yes, I will be adapting.
