TL;DR: It's not the fact that they're patching cheesy ways to beat bosses that's bad, it's the way this 'open world shooter' is being made even more linear..... Players want to use strategies that include the environment and unorthodox methods. People want to play the game the way they want to. Don't keep clipping our wings please Bungie.

  • If you use the mechanics of the fight in a creative way that's one thing. But circumventing the mechanics entirely is another. That's cheating the system. Yes it's an open world game, but just as a building has a blue print, so do the buildings, areas, and fights in the game. We explore those blue prints freely but can't just go around attaching c4 to everything.

So they built those sniper perks completely unaware of the fact that players could get up there? I mean, really? Don't get me wrong, it's a cheap way of progressing, but could they really not have moved them out of range of glide and triple jump? You build ledges that are within reach and people and going to explore and use them.

  • The snipers have a range at which they can attack at, moving them out of the players reach might move the snipers out of their available attack range. They also probably didn't think people would want to cheat, apparently giving too much benefit to the doubt. Why play the game if you don't want to play the game kind of thing. It's like cheating on a test. Why put all the people in the sane room. Couldn't someone just look over at someone else's paper for the answer? Why not search everyone down before entering to make sure they don't have a cheat sheet or something? Same principle but a different application.

Hacking is cheating. Boosting is cheating. Using the ledges is being intelligent where the game devs clearly weren't. Same with Atheon being pushed over the edge. I f you call that cheating then where do you draw the line? Is standing outside the Winter Kell's room and sniping him cheating? Is farming public events cheating? I standing in a spot where the minigun boss can't hit you and shooting him cheating? What about head glitching? By your logic that must be cheating? Yet it's one of the most widely used FPS tactic out there... Why would people do it? Well because as people, we want the most reward for the least effort... That primitive survival part of our brain is still very much intact. Edit: And the Hobgoblins range is FAR greater than out of jumping distance.

You're circumventing the mechanics of the game which is what you play the game fore. As I said, it's like breaking down the walls to complete a maze or not even going in but walking around the outside to get to the end. Why even do the maze or the raid if you're not going to go through it? P.S. Using a mechanics in a way it was, blatantly, not intended to be used to progress through the game is cheating as far as I can see. Edit: Farming public events is not cheating. It's the same as farming spirit bloom.

  • Do you consider the other things I listed as cheating?

  • I can't get back to your reply where you gave examples so I only remember two. Farming public events is like farming spirit bloom so no. If you mean finding cover from the mnigun then no, bit if instead mean finding a place where you'll take no damage regardless of where the boss moves while you are still able to do damage to it then yes.

  • My point is, who cares? We bought the game, so let us play how we want as long as it doesn't hurt another player's experience.

  • P.S. that is only one part of how it negatively affects other players experiences.

  • It does. You lord your achievements and loot over those who faced the challenge as intended and claim to be just as accomplished as they are. You also reap the sane rewards they do after putting in the work, making their victory less meaningful. Now that is not all gamers. I could personally careless if you cheese you're way through the fight. Just don't act like you actually fought it because you didn't. You could have, but you didn't.

  • Yes, that's a good summary of the cardinal point.
