Disclaimer: I played all of Borderlands but I only got half way through Borderlands 2 as I found it to be pretty shitty.
1. Destiny mechanics are smooth wile Borderlands mechanics are clunky
2. Well made PVP
3. Greater character customization
4. Loot is less common and holds more value.
5. not restricted to 4 players.
6. Destiny mechanics are so good they make 2 reasons.

The customization in density is very limited 4) loot is harder to get, but most of it sucks. Doesn't hold much value when everyone can buy it ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) 5) 3 players? 6) that's still only 2 reasons....

On top of that you get more loot in borderlands but there are 87 bazillion guns and destiny has 50. Also zûr just fills the game with exotic guns making them not even rare. Borderlands does not even need pvp. The acting in borderlands is so much better then ghost who makes me want to spoon my eyes out. You most likely quit borderlands because you don't like doing side missions which borderlands actually has.

Bash the loot amounts all you want, the loot in Destiny is more meaningful. You're just comparing one extreme to another. One game has a bunch of irrelevent shit that you would probably never use and the other probably doesnt have enough. Neither system gets it right in my opinion.

have you played Destiny? there are far less guns yes but they are all pretty much useless

Wont disagree. Destiny has less loot bloat, therefore loot IS more meaningful than Borderlands, proportionally speaking. Less bloat is a good thing imo.
