Is it possible to drop the bounty and retake it. Didn't realize the quest I wad doing was for a shot gun.

Nope, but the Invective is easier to achieve though.

Can you have more than one exotic bounty at a time?

Yep, I've almost finished both the Invective and Thorn bounties haha.
