Armor does seem to matter, defense doesn't. I regularly noticed Titans taking more hits to kill, and warlocks taking fewer. Shoulder charge makes striker very effective. There's also the flash bang and magnetic grenades. Might tweak your build and weapons a bit to better fit crucible.
