Are helpful people a dying breed?

why is it so difficult to find people actually willing to help and just have fun with? so what if you wipe a few times, shits n giggles ... and to people saying it's because they don't like wasting time , guess what? you're playing a game! you already are wasting time! what happened to just playing for fun, why is it being replaced by "i can do it faster" or "i have more kills!" it's co-op , yet seems many people forgot what co-op is :( Edit: My faith in online gamers has been restored ! thanks to all the wonderful replies! and hope to see you all online guardians!

    • If your not a high level you get left behind and everyone is like "need experienced players for VoG" when I make a group I don't care if you have never done it before anyone can have it explained to them it's really not that hard. If anyone needs a hand on PS4 add: yogleberry.(29 warlock)

        • I find it fun when I have more kills than someone else, is that so wrong? It's not like I go and rub it in people's faces or anything. As for "you're playing a game, you're already wasting time" That is complete and utter bullshit! I play games to have fun, and having fun is not a waste of time! I'm sorry if playing the game my way, and thus having fun my way, does not jive with your sense of having fun. Generally speaking, people have X amount of time per day to play, and so, unless they have fun by helping other people, they want to maximize the amount of fun they have per day.

            • Simple, those who invest in forums and such, are often times those who aim to be the best and like to be efficient as possible when they play. I'm like that for many many games. But in Destiny, I took a step back and doing it slowly with a clan, because that's how I think Destiny is supposed to be played lol Games like 2K, FIFA, CoD, Tekken, AC, and things like that, I'm aiming to quick everyone's ass as fast and best as I can lol

            • It is mainly because people like to know who they are helping. With zero social aspects in this social/mmo/fps game its hard to lend a helping hand. Who honestly likes having their mailbox spammed by Destiny requests? Not I. Co-op will get a huge increase if there was more social aspects in the game.

              • So I'm assuming that this is specifically about the raid? Most gamers nowadays will only play games if they have some sort of reward involved (hence achievements and unlockables). Most aren't going to be willing to try and go through a raid with people who have never done it as they assume it will be a waste of time. That being said, there are still people like me who enjoy running through the raid with "raid virgins" as you put it. Despite the fact that it's enjoyable for me, I also don't want my time wasted. You may consider gaming a waste of time, but I do it for enjoyment, and if some random guy in my group is dying just because it's funny or he refuses to work with the team, that's not only preventing me from playing the raid with other groups; it's also insulting to me as I'm spending my own personal time to help a new group learn the raid. While I do always expect deaths and a little chaos from new groups, if someone is purposely dying "for the lols" or will not work together with the team, I don't see that as "funny little time wasting". I see it as an insult to me and the rest of the group that want to complete the event and not be stuck in the same spot for an hour.

I mean it was the best group I've ever been in. They were really cool easy to get along with and was funny too. You just have to have hope you'll find them.....

                • No, they are just drowned out by the complaints and syncophants on these forums. There are a lot of good people out there willing to help you out. Just ask them in the right way, and not by spam messaging them until they want to nuke you from orbit.

                        • I just get a laugh when people send me a message to help them with something and when i say no, they usually send me back an angry/racist reply. So i usually say no just to see how they react and if they are nice about it i actually will help them.

                        • People with no time to help others are a dime a dozen. Someone like me, who enjoys helping others out? We end up like Dime a Dozen jackasses because it's overwhelming when you hop online and get 10 party invites. Ignore someone? "Whatever, didn't like you anyways.", or "Why won't you help me?", or "-Insert four random words based into a yo mama joke or the like-". Personally, I get 5 raid invites a DAY. And I've started making people mad by just flat out saying no, that I wan't to do something for me for a change. It's a matter of perspective, but from mine everyone wants someone to do something for them. I even get friends to hop in and ask me to help their friends out. Example A- Buddy wants me to help his friend through VoG. His buddy has no idea what he is doing, over complicates everything. His buddy refuses to listen. 10 wipes later, I tell everyone to listen to me, and simplify things. We succeed, friends buddy tells me I have no right to do that, it's disrespectful, ect. I tell him I only came here to get them through, and I will leave if he opens his mouth again. End Result? We kill Atheon the normal way, and I don't hear from either my friend or his friend again. I'm probably ranting, but really, It makes me hate helping others. The dude had NO idea what he was doing, and he KNEW I was there to help them through it. Why not just let me help them through it by admitting he didn't know and letting me lead from the beginning?
