I'm sorry but you just don't get the full experience in one play through.
The guns just become much more interesting not with better stats but with unique features and difficulty is subjective to the level of the player and there loot.
Trust me when I say the second play through is way better
AI in borderlands is actually pretty smart especially against 4 players

I personally would rather wait to get that unique weapon than be giving a bunch of items every few minutes as if they leave a trail for you to pick up, well that and the controls feels very lackluster its also why I didn't give it a 2nd chance; it doesn't have an identity of what type of shooter it wants it to be? acrade, arena or realism so it's neither of those. The shooter apsects feels shallow. Finally the AI between Destiny and Borderlands is debatable but the only noticeable difference in Borders is increased health and damage output based on players level.
