It would be weird if you simply have the ability to boost and slam for no reason. Not having to monitor oxy, even if its just in the periphery would be a break from the reality of the game.
The biggest issue I have with it is the kraggons dropping O2 tanks and oxy geysers. Otherwise its not in the way and feels fairly natural.

True but destiny is also not abiding by the same kind of rules. Why do we need helmets on earth? Why isn't the gravity less on moon?
