Well the thing about apples and oranges is that you can actually compare them. Which tastes better?
We're talking graphics for two FPS games. We're not saying "What do you prefer? Borderlands graphics or Destinys music?".
I prefer Destiny's art style because it is more realistic, the designs have had more careful thought, it's much more serious, there is a clear design language. Borderlands has a fun comic cel-shaded look but I prefer a more serious tone like Fallout or Halo.
So you saying we can't compare the graphics between BL and Destiny means nothing. We can. We will.

The thing about comparing apples and oranges is that you quite directly can't. That's my point. Everyone keeps saying "Destiny has better graphics" and I'm trying to say, "NO, you personally like Destiny's graphics better, but they are not inherently better." People need to seperate fact from opinion. So you can sit there and tell me how much you like Desitny's graphics more and all that proves is... well, nothing. Borderlands is the superior FPS-RPG game. That's just a fact. Does that make you bad for preferring Destiny? No. Not at all. I'm getting my money's worth out of Destiny. However, if we don't hold Bungie accountable and say, "Look at your predecessors who were superior, who did the genre correctly, THAT is what you should be looking towards," then they won't learn how to fix many of the grave errors they've made in this game.

Edited by rocketFox: 10/21/2014 10:08:12 PMOh man..... In no way are any of us saying that it is a FACT that Destiny has better art style than Borderlands. Seriously, get that assumption out of your head. When we discuss anything that is fundamentally a creative thing we are discussing our opinions, it is subjective, it is how we feel. Some of us have an opinion that has more weight than others, for example I am a graphic designer by trade, but it is still an opinion no matter what way you look at it. Just in the same sense that when we do compare apples and oranges and someone says "I prefer apples" it is their opinion. You saying "Borderlands is the superior FPS-RPG game" is an opinion. I respect that opinion but my opinion differs. Saying "That's just a fact" doesn't somehow mean you've won the argument. Utter madness.

This guy is right (my opinion) it's like when I walked into the walker art gallery and saw a painted toilet with some crap stuck to it, next to a perfectly sculpted statue of the human form. To me on the statue is art but the toilet was in the gallery so it must be art to although I'll never agree with it.

First off, a number of people ARE directly saying as a fact that Destiny has better art. In fact, the person I replied to said that. So it's not an assumption I'm making, it's a direct reply to things people are saying. Secondly, it's a fact because I've listed a couple of times a long list as to the elements that make Borderlands superior. It does the RPG elements factually better. It has: - a legitimate loot system which Destiny got wrong - more perks and more passives that apply to the gunplay which is the focus of the game, another thing Destiny missed - better character customization - larger variety of weapons and enemies - better characters All of those things are important to your average RPG, and Borderlands just does them all better. Yes when we talk about a creative thing we are discussing a number of opinions, HOWEVER there are various standards and means with which we can empirically compare things. For instance, the light system. We know AS A FACT that it isn't good and that gamers generally dislike it because it showed up in an LotR MMO-RPG as "radiance" and everyone hated it. They hated it so much it got patched out of the game. The fact that Destiny uses it means we can factually state it was a bad idea. Same goes for 100% random loot dropping. Same goes for having bosses that don't drop any loot. Thos are RPG sins, quantifiable and direct to point to.

This guy gets it.
