Taking sides in this is ridiculous. I only need one reason to explain why this is a pointless post.
Borderlands is an already established IP with a lot of background story, lore, and two previous games full of DLC it can pull from. Destiny is a brand new IP.

Story and lore hmmmmm I would argue story is only relevant to the Presequel and Borderlands 2 but even then Destiny's attempt at a story was worst I had ever seen so I don't really understand your reasoning on this one. As for lore I would argue that is something Destiny does better than Borderlands. Now Bungie is a seasoned developer more so than Gearbox (let's not forget Aliens Colonial Marines) and they should be capable of producing something of a higher quality than what they released and that's why I think it's a fair comparison.
