Well put

Edited by PowZ: 10/24/2014 9:17:29 PMYeah, Borderlands is really cartoony - either you like that or you don't, no middle ground there . . . and it's not the worst reason ever, nor is it a lame reason if you don't like overly cartoony, heavily outlined, 2D looking graphics. . . I played BL 1 and 2 extensively and it's OK but after awhile it became "Boringlands" . . . Destiny's gameplay, thin story or not, will last way longer for me.

Worst reason ever... of all time...

I'd have to say aesthetics in today's age of gaming is far more important than the golden age of gaming personally. What with all the graphical output of new consoles and PC heavily laden with overclocked proc's and juiced up gfx cards - how could the visuals be considered NOT important to today's gamer? If I find something to not be visually appealing it will be hard to push through that facet of the game and simply enjoy the gameplay. To put this into simpler words, "I don't care how much of a freak she is in bed, the bitch is ugly".

I stll put gameplay at a higher place than graphics.

I do as well, but when the graphics are off-putting it's really hard to bother investing time into the gameplay mechanics. That's my point. As someone that actually followed Borderlands development, it wasn't always cel-shaded animation. In all truth, Borderlands originally looked a LOT like Destiny initially. See for yourself : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g8qF3q5GRFI When they shifted direction to the cel-shaded style it put me off so much I stopped caring about the title. I rented the original to check it out and was so annoyed by the graphic style I couldn't play for more than an hour before returning it.

I feel ya. Thanks for the link but I own the game so I already know. Also have you tried BL2? Game's awesome in my opinion but to each their own.
-
If you didn't watch the vid, watch it. The game you own looks nothing like they originally conceived it to be. It was a complete shift in direction to the dismay of many fans. Of course back then people didn't rage about them changing things and cry for lawsuits - they just didn't buy if the graphics put them off and did buy if they still thought it looked cool/fun =)
-
Hmm I see what you're talking about. Yeah the graphics looked better. Could be a bug they found that caused them to go back? I'll need to replay BL1 and stick with it this time.

Rumor mill was they intended cross-platform play and the systems at the time couldn't keep up, frame-rates became unstable and they had to scrap the idea - but move to something more accessible for console gaming at the time. This is also why BL(pre-sequel) will not be on nxt-gen systems. It's designed for PS3 & X360 specifically to work with their hardware sets. It's not even a new code, it's just BL1&2 engine with updates. It would look extremely sub-par on new systems and people would complain loudly that their spiffy new systems are playing outddated looking software. End of the day, each their own.

BLPS is fun. Just need to set a date for me to play that game on. Nisha is also kinda sexy too!
