TL;DR
Exotics should be gained by completing their own story quests. Like exotic bounties but none of the super grind, repetition, rage causing elements.
Exotics are luck based. There isn't any cool factor to owning them. Before you think you are clever by posting "hur dur OP wuns be special snowflake" I'm not talking about the amount of people who have it. I'm talking about belonging to a special club. I see a thorn user and think "damn, what a champ. He grinded void kills and beat that summoning pits mission". I see Suros and think "How boring. Got 23 coins, nothing special"
They should have their own stories. Thorn is the only weapon that requires any challenge to obtain and the weapon isn't even that great.
Read the exotic Grimoire, we should have to go through their stories to unlock the weapons. Look at the last word for example. The story behind the gun is badass. If we had to do something (I don't even care if it requires RNG) to unlock the mission, then walk through a story to get the gun, I'd be happy. Imagine walking with the original renegade gunslinger. At the end something happens and he gives you his gun. Or fighting through hostile lands to find Toland's Journal, instead of grinding repetitive strikes.
Anyone who gets to level 30 and has lots of exotics isn't cool, they just have more time to make deals with RNGesus. If exotics have a legacy in game, I wouldn't even care about RNG, I'd be impressed when I see someone who has one. At the least, I'd understand what they went through. I wouldn't think "oh, got lucky".
It's not like it's asking for an arm and a leg. The stories behind every exotic are already in the Grimoire. How about we cut the repetitive crap and get to some good stuff? When you borrow elements from other genres, you don't take the bad stuff. Less luck. More awe.

Honestly as much as the graphics are good, the gamy flow is good and I do compliment all the artists, writers and game designers of Destiny. However, with that said I will say the story so far, well a Sunday comic has more depth than Destiny and I agree there needs to be more story behind why for characters ( there the lack of) and who we are fighting, I mean is it that much of a challenge to throw that in? The one interesting character ( the stranger) we see her for a whopping 3 minutes, really??? I'm upset about that, the Queen, we get 2 lousy cut scenes, really!? I mean the lack of story is baffling !!! I honestly thought WTF that's it" You're kidding me right, did I miss something? Thought ok well maybe as I go along they'll be more, nope. Same patrol missions over and over and over again - just once I would like to get a patrol mission saying to rescue a downed Guardian or something other than the BS over and over again. I've lost count at how many games I have played but even the ok games had a freaking story behind them, also the roam space? What roam space? There's more roam space in a cardboard box! I died several times no because I was told to turn back, I was like no I want to check that out! But nope, can barely even climb on things unless you get a good glitch going and luck out. I know this has nothing to do with the artists, writers or game designers - this is corporate locking us out of this game play and it really is upsetting that they have locked us out of so much of the game. I have been playing now only a month and I am almost maxed out and the only reason I find I am still playing is 2 elements, my compulsion to max out my levels and helping out other guardians, but with every online game there are always some that try to ruin the fun by being jerks as you all know. Anyhow that's not what I am upset about, Activision has lost my trust big time and that is not so easily earned back. Why should I pay more money for more content, what guarantee is there that there will actually be more content? Obviously the story is lost so they have no intention of delivering a story to Destiny. Dialogue is shameless, I played RuneScape for many years, despite it was a pc game and not exactly the same as Destiny, at least RuneScape had a story, special weapons had a story and they weren't so easy to get either. Also there were actual events and lots of quests/missions, slayer you could do on your own. Why I say the Tower is a joke? Well not sure what Activision has in store for Destiny, I'm not even sure what it is at the moment to be honest. It's not a mmorpg game, cause if it was there would be more merchants, there would be trading amongst players, you'd be able to buy materials and supplies, their would be potions, medicines what have you that you could keep in your inventory when out patrolling or doing missions. The Tower lacks so much, why isn't there more areas to explore there or even just hang out and do mini games or what have you. You can click on each others character but can't message, why? Other than getting bounties, rewards and a bit of gear there's nothing there. Why I say it's not a mmorpg game and it lacks any fundamental story line so you can't really call it a game game? It's like they have cut out all the good stuff, threw the story in the waste basket and are hoping people will be subdued by the hidden subliminal message encoded to keep us coming back. The lack of anything of potions, materials ect in this game is mortifying, don't get me wrong I like this game but if this is all I get for $60.00 and I have to pay an additional $35.00 in hopes they include what? Another story if we are lucky? Do you realize the amount of money Activision stands to make off of us? What happens when you are totally maxed out in combat and you have all the shiny exotic weapons? Crucible? Raids? I think we deserved at least a good story for crying out loud and we didn't get that, what we got was the speaker saying he could tell us a story but won't. We got lame cut scenes in between missions that didn't explain anything, most of the interactions aren't explained so you have to read the forums or google it on youtube to figure out what the heck they mean, really!!! This game could be so much more and it does have the potential, however there are so many players who feel they got burnt by Activision that, like me - they aren't willing to pay for nothing. Activision is going to have to make good on what they promised us, if they are not willing to unlock areas that are already on the disc we paid for - then I fear Destiny is destined to fail. Don't get me wrong it's great to help out other players, I do and always have when I play online games. However there is nothing that will keep me going long term and I was hoping for more, instead I got a lousy story and pretty much beat the story mode in less than 2 weeks. How do they justify this? This is why so many are upset and we have a right to be, we're not upset with the artists, writers, game designers or fellow gamers - we're upset with Activision and so should all of you. If Activision doesn't admit what they did and owe up to their mistake and unlock the content we paid for on our disc, then why should we pay for their million dollar yachts and luxury cruises, their laughing all the way to the bank! If they don't fix this, I will never buy anything with Activision on the label. I would like to add to all the artists, writers and game designers who worked on Destiny, great job and I know this isn't your fault - we know who is to blame.
-
I think all Exotics should only be awarded for completing a bounty for them, rather than this random crap.
-
I think it would have been a whole lot better if, each time you handed in the exotic bounties (And in some of the mission bits), there were cutscenes. Things such as the speaker revealing you were corrupted and needing motes of light would have been cool animated.
-
I do appreciate the thorn bounty the most since I had to solo the unwed. #badass?maybe
-
And yet another hapless soul that can't stop their ego from trying to be big and Important in a video game where they are nothing and pointless in life.
-
I got my last word from everyone leaving me in this strike mission at Valus Tuarc and I beat it solo so ha that's a story
-
This is all I have to say.
-
Back in my younger years, the thing you are referring to was called a "sidequest." Those had an extra story to the main story and were quit enjoyable. Now though, things like that have a Final Fantasy XIII "chorequest" feel to them. No developers want to put any effert in making most games these days.
-
Dumb. Do you not realize the point of having guns of different rarity. I look at bounties and see p.o.s. weps handed to people...the same as Xur items. You're pissed off because theres a probability drop rate? Stick to COD. Ruin a different game. You casuals already ruined this one mostly.
-
I like your idea. It would be fun to have story missions for some weapons.
-
Agreed. I have 350 hours logged my buddy has 90 who do you think has more exotics? Bungie fix this or I WILL leave. Defeats the purpose of the game.
-
Welcome to the land of arguments. On the top you'll see where it all started. On the bottom you'll see how it spread.
-
I'll let you into a secret, getting any loot in every MMO's is luck based. If this is new to you then you need to stick to CoD or BF..
-
The Loot System is mad retarded Legendary engram : SUPER RARE, I GET THOSE ONCE / WEEK Exotic Gear : 6+ time a week, Xur + Bounty + NightFall + Raid Blue engram... LOL they are all over the place. Green : Cancer engram
-
what makes my thorn all the more special was that i was lucky enough to get the bounty in the first place. i dont think Exotic weapons should have a story mission that is accessable to everyone, i think it really should be based on luck. its supposed to have a special feeling, like you have an Excalibur, or even THE Excalibur of whatever gun. its supposed to be unbiased. it doesnt get anymore unbiased than luck. luck favors whatever it wants to, not pros or noobs, solo players or team players. just whatever the server dishes out is what you get. as for guns and armors sold by Xur, i think they need to make the way of obtaining strange coins a luck-based thing too. perhaps they should be put up to the legendary tier and should be given a small chance of being dropped by enemies. i mean the same chances that an enemy has to drop a legendary or even exotic engram. they shouldnt be given out like candy for beating some "just beat the story a few days ago"-leveled strike. that, and i think the prices should be increased for exotics too. 17-30 of a rare-tiered item/currency is just too cheap for an exotic, or, as i described before, an Excalibur of a weapon/armor piece the exotic engrams should be raised in price too. perhaps to 50-100 motes of light?
-
You haven't seen me with Pocket Infinity have you? That guns tears shit up in PVP.
-
I love the back ground behind The Last Word, but unfortunately, you can tell it was created before or after the grimoire story was created. The description of the gun is incorrect according to the grimoire story. Bit of a fail, but it's still cool
-
I agree. But da hell. EXOTICS ARE WORTHLESS!!! Da helllllll! Dude exotics aren't worthless it's probs because you don't own one.
-
tl;dr
-
"exotics are worthless" What, are you expecting to sell these somewhere? They are what they are. Buy them with strange coins, use the ones you buy to upgrade the ones you already have. If one drops from RNG, cool.
-
Really? They are useless? Please feel free to tell that to my hawkmoon that I got from completing my first ever nightfall and do tell that to my brand new shiny invective that I got after blasting through a bunch of lvl 24 strikes to get the glimmer and having to claw my way through the crucible to get the k/d spread of 25/0. And do tell that to my voidfang vestements that I fought hard for by slowly earning enough strange coins to get it three weeks ago. Do continue.
-
Exotics in this game were not meant to be like in other games. They are just fancy toys, slightly harder to get than legendaries. Not really meant to make people be uber special or elite for having them.
-
-
Love your idea... But sadly it would mean Bungie/ Activision spending more money, so 0% chance of that happening...
-
Lol. I do not have much time to play. I've spent 4 days. I bought 2 exotics. Got 1 from raid 1 from nightfall. And I've seen ppl getting 2 exotics in one day. This rng is so bad. So so bad.
-
Shhhhhhhh let the RNG consume you
