You know how the Tower just sends us on missions but doesn't let us ask any questions or find anything out?
Well if that is their intention, there is one small problem. We could just wander off and find out for ourselves. Take a trip down to the city or wherever else we might find answers.
Except we can't. Because if you go off course, a warning pops up telling you to turn back, and then you mysteriously die, and it's called a misadventure.
But how could you die when there was nothing around to kill you? Well there is one thing, actually.
Your Ghost.

I think the Ghosts were old scientists from the Ishtar Academy that got corrupted by the Traveler. In the mission where the Archive refers to the Ghost as "Dr. Shin" (Shim?), seems to startle Dinklebot. So much so that it feels like a reminder of an existence he'd forgotten long ago. I think in a fully fleshed out Destiny story, Dinklebot learns that he has been a pawn of the Traveler and convinces your guardian to side with the Crow after learning the truth. Just my speculation, nothing much to base the theory on.

Edited by ZZKoverts: 12/10/2014 6:04:15 PMFrom the journal of Toland the shattered: Not much is understood about the forces of darkness arrayed against us. The Cabal, in their aggressiveness, make close study risky and imprecise. The Vex and The Hive, are arcane and inscrutable. It can't even be determined if they possess language and culture. But our closest neighbours, The Fallen, are much more familiar. Their culture and hierarchies are similar to those of ancient humans. They have royalty, priests, gods. They have language. And what we know of it disturbs me greatly. Did you know that the Fallen have no word to describe humans? No, their word for us, every one of us, is Traveller. The Fallen see no difference between we humans and our great protector in the sky. It isn't hard to see why. They have seen our bodies pulled from the dust by our Ghosts. They have seen us transformed into radiant demons who burn them from the earth, decapitate their monarchs and pound their gods to scrap metal. All with the light of the traveller. The Fallen are numerous, but primitive and brutal. The strong and proud, with many arms, hold dominion over the weak. We are Traveller. And traveller has more arms than any other.

Have you even listened to the postmaster, I've heard it say something like "this must be the wrong address, that tower is empty isn't it" where is this other tower and why is it getting mail

Actually her name is miss adventure and she's killed hundreds of guardians for entering her territory

If they went with the story that the traveler was evil, that would explain many things, like when you get the world's grave key "we got the key, I know where we're going." Always sticks out. How the -blam!- do you magically know where this is, in the massive collection of hive tunnels and infrastructures, which "we couldn't possibly find all of it" or whatever that quote was. Who knows.

The Ghost is most likely just trying to get us killed. When you open the door and first find Hive on Earth, he says that the Fallen didn't want anyone going through it, so it must be locked down tight. Yet it takes him forever to unlock the Archon Priest door. Also, the enemies can't hit him. When you die, the enemies all say, "Shoot the Ghost!" but they can't hit him. So what's the point of protecting him. He also can teleport you-yet he wonnt do it when your in trouble or need to get somewhere fast. Lastly, remember the Archive? How he let the Fallen walk in? He could've just locked the door again, but he didn't. He can revive you, but doesn't in a weekly strike. He always sets you up in hordes of enemies, and only unlocks the door when the all die because there is nothing left to kill you. Wait, did I just say he could teleport you a while back? Can't he just teleport you through the doors? The facts add up. Our Ghost is trying to kill us.

After reading some of the posts on here I have come up with a theory. We know that dinklebot is created in some part from/by the traveler as a guide to us, so in some way he is linked to the traveler. In one mission on the moon you find a shard of the traveller that the hive we are told are draining the light from it. There is a dark fog effect over the exterior. Maybe the hive are actually removing the darkness from the traveller instead. Thats a whole other theroy I have. As most enemies shoot out white light when you head shot them or the larger enemies explode in to blinding light when you kill them, what if dinklebot is a conduit for collecting light for the traveller. It would explain why he seems to enjoy getting you swamped in enimies all the time. More enimies = more light. We are basically farmers powering up tge travller for fare means or foul. If the travller is evil then the theroy still holds as Darkness is just the absence of light. And we are removing it at an alarming rate. Just a theory....

Ghosts are the souls of fallen Guardians who asked the questions that they shouldn't have.
-
And why do we have American accents if we are all from Russia, and why don't we care that we are Zombies... And didn't we have families or friends? What if we want to stay dead... Our ghost is just going to keep reviving us.

I want multiple legendary ghost skins!

Our ghosts and our mothers have a common motto: "I brought you into this world, and I can take you out of it."

I have a feeling we will be asking a lot of questions through out the course of the game....

Or ghosts are actually a small fragment of the traveller that it has somehow embodied itself inside this small contraption, since every guardian has a ghost it can see and watch everywhere and know every place the guardian goes, kinda like a linked network of live feed cameras... Imagine, the traveller isn't dead? it's last strength was used to create these 'ghosts'.. Each holding a subconscious part of the traveller to be distributed to guardians.
