I don't like it but in this case Sony is paying for its player base to get this exclusive content, so that they can move more consoles. Same way gamestop pays for extra content. The length of the exclusivity depends on how much Sony is paying for it. Microsoft has done the same with Tombraider and other games. Basically, as long as publishers are willing to accept such deals, Sony/Microsoft will continue to make this deals in the interest of their consoles. Edit: TLDR; I know you and I paid the same for the game but Sony is subsiding the extra content for me by paying Bungie on my behalf. Microsoft will probably do the same with a future bungie game.
