...but you can't use 99% of it if you want to be at the level cap, because only certain armour lets you get there.

Level cap isn't all that, there are some legendary armour that I prefer to raid gear because of the perks. Honestly, I like some of my gear that only gets me to 27. In fact I prefer it. So no, those new items won't be useless. Level cap it's only to help you with the raid, be on a more even field. In regular crucible, I'd rather be a 26/27 with some sweet perked armour. Consider that?

No I haven't considered that because I want to beat the game (read - hard raid) and for that I need level 30. Ergo, said items are useless unless I can equip them and get to level 30.

I understand the want to beat the hard raid. Armour alone won't do it though. Honestly, you can beat the hard raid as a 28. I know, because I've done it. It took some trial and error, and a lot of self revives. But it's possible.

Well I've tried it with six 29s and we struggled. Please consider this a collective bow to your superior fingers.

Honestly, it's team work. If you have 6 29s all doing their own thing, you'll fail. Plain and simple

To be fair when we've tried the last couple of weekends the Party Chat function hasn't worked properly. People can't hear others, people can't hear anyone, people can only hear certain people. It makes it near impossible. What's up with that? Is it a Destiny or Xbox thing?

I'm pretty certain it's the Xbox. Did everyone port forward their router? I've never had issues with my group. Secondly, Xbox likes to switch you game chat, or party chat randomly. If you can't hear, or can't hear someone, check those options first. Thirdly, are you in a clan?

Yeah we're all in a clan. I've noticed the party / game chat change thing as well. Very annoying. Port forwarding a router sounds too complicated for me and also annoying given I've shelled out the best part of £500, I'd expect it to work.

Port forwarding is extremely easy!! There are a few webpages that walk you through it. It might not even be you, it could be that they are working on a strict nat type whilst yours is open. Make sure, if it happens again, you get everyone to check their nat type. That will resolve the issue as well.

Haha. That damn boss will be the death of me. Three raids completed in the search of a set of raid gauntlets. Does RNGeesus answer my prayers? Of course not.

9 raids completed 3 of which was hard mode. So technically 12. No chest or helmet. Only have boots and arms. FML.
