To the people complaining about the DLC, updates, and bungie in general, let's take a moment to exercise some common sense.
DLC?
YES, a good portion of the future DLC is already in the game and is technically accessable by glitching out of the maps. However, if you were to actually do this, you would find that the areas are far from perfectly complete. They are very buggy and contain a whole lot of problems. Sure, Bungie included these places before launch, but have you ever considered that they did it to make it easier down the road for themselves, rather than just to rob you of money?
Furthermore, charging for DLC is not a new concept. Nearly every successful game does this. Call of Duty has been doing it for years and NO ONE complains! The only difference is that CoD doesn't put the maps in the game before, because its not a free roam world! So where would they put them?? But that doesn't stop them from charging you every penny they can get for each new map pack.
CONTRACTUAL RIGHTS
Upset that you are on Xbox and have to wait a year for stuff that Play Station already has? Well get used to it because there is a contract in place (just like how Xbox had rights to Halo) that says Playstation has the rights! At least it's just a year and not FORVER like halo was.
10 YEAR PLAN
If Destiny truly has a 10 year plan for expansions, do you actually believe that they can keep paying their employees for 10 years off of the 60$ we spent to buy the game? No! They would run out of money in no time. Just like any on running massive multiplayer online game, they need to charge a little bit of money in order to keep themselves functioning!
To everyone that feels the need to point out that the 10 year plan in fact involves several new titles and additions to the legacy, bear in mind that regardless of how the 10 year plan is carried out, it requires money. This game is Bungie's baby. They want to make it the best game they have ever made. Give them time, be patient, and enjoy the future releases.
UPDATES
People are constantly asking for updates for the game. I am sure bungie is listening to you, but what do you want them to do? Reply to 10,000 comments a day saying, "we read your comment and the idea is in consideration"? Do you have any idea how long it takes for developers to consider an idea, bring it before the board, plan the idea, beta test the idea, execute the idea, and finish the -blam!-ing idea? It takes a long -blam!-ing time! They plan on working on this game for 10 years. So expect many, many, many updates during that time. But they can only be done so fast. Developers aren't god. They can't build the world in seven days. So get used to it, or quit the game.
If you are patient enough to stick around, expect some pretty cool content coming in the near/far future.
TIME
Let's consider one final thing. The majority of the players that have run out of things to do in Destiny have played 150+ hours. This game has been out for less than two months. The reason it is out of content is because we have literally OVERPLAYED it. Speaking from personal experience, I have played nearly 300 hours because this game is amazing. I highly doubt the developers of the game were ready for that.
If you are worried about content running out, maybe slow down a little bit. Even at my 300 hours, I am still having fun. But that's just me.
However, there are very few games that are capable from ripping me away from the real world.

Stop being such entitled little bitches and either just quit the game or accept that the world isn't free and takes time to make perfect.

TL;DR (too long; didn't read)
- It is not free to continue producing content for a game
- A 10 year plan requires a 10 year budget
- The DLC "already in the game" is not finished. If you glitch out to it, you will see it needs considerable work before being ready for play.
- Bungie is contractually bound to release certain content on PSN only (for a year), it's not an option. Thats how contracts work.
- Updates take a considerable amount of time, and if Bungie wants this game to last 10 years, they need 10 years of updates. Be patient.
- If you are out of content already it may be time to go outside, or maybe call one of those friends you forgot you had.
Well when you think about it, Microsoft has more money than they will probably ever need. But thats no reason for them to start handing out copies of Office for free. The world runs on money, and whether we like it or not, we are part of the world. If the DLC was free, I would love it. But I very seldom get handed free things, so I am not too worried about buying it.
I can spend 20$ for one night downtown that I won't even remember. I would happily spend 20$ for another 100 hours of gameplay that I will love every minute of.
Yeah, this guy might be right. We should stop playing this game if they seriously want to make this franchise last 10 years on multiple game installations (at least $60 an installation and $12 per expansion/dlc)(one installation every 2 years, 2 dlc per installation). Unlike the legend of zelda: orcarina of time which has us satisfied for more than 10 years on one cartridge.
-
You're an idiot. Do you actually believe the shit you're saying.
-
Contractual Rights your comparison sounds sensible, but you're way off base. Bungie contracted with MS with Halo, and MS had exclusive rights to the entire game. you could not, as a PS owner, buy a portion of Halo for the same price as Xbox owners were paying for the game in its entirety.
-
Cod, that is all.

I enjoyed the game myself and even after completing so much in so little time I still find myself doing more. At times I find new spots that have bugs or I spend it doing my favorite thing which is gun grinding. People buy 1 or 2 weapons from Xur and they think they are done. You ever considered that maybe just maybe there is a gun better than yours? I have had people bitch at me for using the Hawkmoon. Hey you got a Mythoclast I got a Hawkmoon lets just get along and kill each other in peace. As for dlc I actually can't wait to play it. Sure it won't be huge but I can work towards a new goal of I will have every single exotic weapon in the game. The level cap is only 32 and I am guessing cause just like the VoG it is a pain in the arse to get higher level raid armor. Hell I still need either boots or gloves to hit lv 30. Call of Duty says new content give us money for maps and nobody bats an eye. Bungie does the same thing and everyone loses their minds.

So reading between the lines, I should bash Sony for creating such an outrageous contract to try and pull xbox users to buy the ps4. Granted, the ps4 is vastly better at the gaming side of consoles, esp with the capabilities of remote access to the system in at least 2 ways now, though this still does not change the major downfall and reason for reluctance to buy it: the controller layout.
-
Ps4 controller is infinitely more comfortable than the xb1 controller. Honestly I hate that thing, 360's was better than xb1's.
-
Depends on your hands. For me XB1 Controller > 360 Controller > PS4 Controller > PS3 Controller. I have a PS3, but I also have a device to interface my 360 controller with it.
-
I have giant hands ps4 is still more comfortable.
-
Everyone has a different comfort level with hand movement. Mine fits the XBOX controller layout very well. I could play for hours straight with no issues at all, except maybe the gel tabs coming off.
-
Well Sony jumped all over the opportunity for exclusive content because of the way in which they totally -blam!-ed up by missing out on the Halo franchise. Granted, I hate the playstation and will stick with the xbox regardless of any stupid deals that have been made. At least Sony didn't manage to secure exclusive content forever! One year isn't too bad.
-
I suppose not, but in one year, are you going to be excited about a strike and possible missions, or the current tier raid in that time?. Not to mention Halo 5 release would come right about the time the 1 year mark hits, but that's a different issue altogether.
-
I find it interesting everyone keeps speaking of Microsofts exclusive rights to halo. Sony would have never had the opportunity to purchase bungie/halo. A little know fact is that Bill Gates pulled the rug from under Steve jobs on the bungie deal and Steve was pisssed. He had all intents and purposes to purchase Bungie to develop Halo for the Mac. That's the actual reason Halo is an IP of Microsoft. Bill Gates funded its development. You can YouTube Things about Halo you didn't know and hear all about it and many other interesting facts 😁

I totally agree with u sermon

Well said, Deej. I don't know if you are in the software business but you seem to understand it very well, and you recognize Bungie's desire (and need) to make Destiny profitable. The business reality is that the talent it takes to create a game like this ain't cheap. That huge budget some keep throwing out there sounds like a lot of money but it doesn't go as far as you'd think. The salary for a Sr. Game Developer is about $97K per year average in the US, not including the cost of benefits. Throw those in and you're talking $120K per year easy. So for every 10 developers, that's 1.2M per year just in employee compensation. Attracting and retaining programming talent is very important, and what attracts and retains them is money. If they want to develop this thing for 10 years, they want their developers around for at least that long, so they are likely paying something well north of the $97k. The infrastructure is expensive too; the servers that all Destiny players login to have to be purchased, maintained, managed and upgraded assuming they own them. Even if they lease cloud space from Amazon or whoever, it's still a hit on the bottom line. At a price point of $60 bucks a copy for the game, they probably aren't even close to covering the operating costs right now. The investors who are floating the difference between their revenue and their current operating costs are patient, but not infinitely so. They'll expect that some time well before the 10 years of development are up that they'll be in the black because if not, Destiny will get the hook, before the 10 years is up, trust me. These investors and their lawyers, the executives at Sony and Microsoft and their lawyers, even the executives at Bungie and their lawyers, may not even play the games they invest in, produce, and sign the contracts for. These are the people ultimately driving the decisions, and they are not about to mix business with pleasure. They understand that the future of this game, which they equate to their return on investment and nothing more, depends on aggressive development of new content. It will come, but it's not going to be free. It's not going to be terribly fast either. Consider that we're not really talking about one game here, there are 4 of them. Granted, there is some overlap in the development area, but downstream from the code development they may as well be completely different games because each media set for the 4 platforms they support has to go through development unique to the platform, QA, packaging and distribution. And then there are those pesky contracts that Deej mentioned. You think the battles between factions at the Ishtar Commons are fierce, they are nothing compared to the battles between Sony's and Microsoft's lawyers when they argue content release dates. And like us, Bungie has to run into the middle of all of that and try to win against both sides. Are a lot of people going to bail on Destiny and chase the next shinny object? Yeah, probably. Are those of us who stick around and invest in the DLC going to see continuous improvement and enjoy a gaming experience second to none for a decade (eventually)? Definitely.

Ikr ur totally right
-
And where exactly does the outright lie by the President of Bungie fit in to your explanation? He had to have known yesterday that there WAS Playstation exclusive content in the first DLC. Yet he goes on the record with Eurogamer and states without reservation that there was NO PLAYSTATION EXCLUSIVE CONTENT IN THE DARK BELOW.
-
I haven't seen that article, so I couldn't comment on it. But I do know that plans change quickly sometimes in business. Maybe no PS exclusive content was the plan of record at the time he said it. It doesn't necessarily mean he was lying if he didn't tell Eurogamer that another plan was being considered. Or maybe he was, who knows? Or maybe that's going to be true for EU and not for other parts of the world. It happens. At the company I'm at now I was offered a job, accepted the offer, an had it all in writing. Then I get a call at 8:00am the next morning and was told they had acquired another company, so my employment was on hold until they could hash out the workforce merger. I'm sure they knew there was a possibility this could happen before they made the offer, but until the deal got signed, they were proceeding as planned with hiring people as if there was no deal pending. BTW I was *Really Glad* I didn't show up early and tell off the boss at my old job and/or take a dump in his trash can. I ended up spending 10 more weeks there before I finally got to start the new job.
-
Exactly, "entitled little bitches" sick of these turds demanding shit. I mean everyone know what needs to be done for improvement. Bungie probly dont care bottomless threats from faceless noobs
-
Ikr u got a point there

Thank you someone with a head on their shoulders finally

How can you not be upset about this terrible dlc? Have you considered that they are trying to screw us over and get out as much money from us as possible? So no new planets from what I understand, no new crucible game modes, only 2 more light levels (has to be the smallest level upgrade I've ever seen), I'm sure more unbalanced exotics you will never see people use, and they haven't even taken the time to fix the game they already released. The more we all keep buying crap the more companies like this will bleed us of our money. Yay go corporate america!
-
You're only calling the DLC terrible because you aren't getting what you want, you crybaby.

Totally
