Edit: Before you read, please note that this is not a comparison of games, but a comparison of $/content value.
TO ALL THE HATERS:
Most of us come from a FPS background in either COD, Battlefield, or Halo. And it seems there is a lot of us on here slamming Bungie, but can we please BACK THE CRAZY TRAIN UP?!!! I, myself, have been a COD person, so I'm going to speak specifically from that point of view
Let's look at the facts before drawing some conclusions:
1. Call of Duty games launch with around 10-11 multiplayer maps, then charges a fee for DLC (usually around $15) that includes around five more maps. There are four
of these DLCs in a "season". This DLC has no other content then those five maps and then maybe a new weapon
- Destiny launched with 11 multiplayer maps and the first DLC will introduce 3 more maps to the Crucible
2. Call of Duty games generally have an entertaining campaign mode that takes about 6 hours to complete. You are solo on this campaign.
- Destiny launched with a "campaign" mode that takes at least twice as long as a Call of Duty campaign, and can be played with up to two other friends if you want.
You can always play it solo if you choose. These campaigns do repeatedly start you in the same world over and over again, but take you through different parts of
that world to defeat different bosses.
3. Call of Duty puts in tons of micro transactions for character customizations, voice commentators, weapon skins, etc. that you pay real money to access
- SO FAR, Destiny doesn't make you pay any more for such customizations. There are tons of options already available.
4. Call of Duty's DLC includes only 5 multiplayer maps and maybe a gun for $15
- Destiny's DLC includes 3 multiplayer maps, a host of new weapons and armors, new drop items, a new raid, new missions and strikes, new shaders and it costs
only $5 more.
So, let's add all this up:
CALL OF DUTY - For a $60 game, and $40 of DLC ($60 if you don't buy the season pass) I get:
- Around 30 multiplayer maps, a 6hr campaign, some other kind of co-op mode that usually few people touch, a couple of added weapons, a number of looks (though your armor/camo/ghillie suit play no role in actually preventing damage), and that about sums it up
DESTINY - $60 game, $35 for DLC ($40 if you don't buy expansion pass):
NOTE - I'm going to estimate based on what we know of The Dark Below and apply it to the House of Wolves DLC
- 16 Crucible maps, an estimated 24-30hr campaign that can be played solo or with a small team, about 12-15 new weapons, 8-10 new armors (that actually do something besides aesthetics), three 6-player co-op Raid missions, multiple in-game currencies, a grimoire packed with story content (albeit very few people read, but it's more than COD has going for it), and that about sums it up.
My question is this; WHAT DO YOU PEOPLE WANT???? Destiny offers so much more content then Call of Duty or Battlefield, or even any of the Halo games. You may not like the story as much (agreed, it was extremely lacking), but there is a ton in this game, the gameplay is tight, and for less money then what I pay in a year on Call of Duty I feel like I'm getting more content. I'm on Playstation, so an Xbox user may feel differently, but let's admit that for a new IP, this game has a ton going on.
CAN I GET A WITNESS?!

Agree 100%
-
No kidding hey. If the framework wasn't there people would complain about having to download another 5 gigs of info on to their hds
-
Can you post this up for the world to see so they can quit complaining? I play COD religiously and continue to get this lesser amount of content happily. People don't say nothing about COD because its COD, unless your talking about Ghosts...no comment. I see where Destiny is headed and I'm eagerly waiting for it have more updates and additions. As for the Playstation exclusives its only gonna be like a handful of things that rally won't take away from the game cause even when I get hawkmoon i can do without it. Thorn and The Last Word are much better anyway. Destiny has way more to offer than COD but its just getting started and I'm very happy with what it has now because there are way more guns, the shooting mechanic is VERY stable, the crusible is hard and I'm still steamrolling people :), and your right about the armor actually doing something other than look cool. I will say this though I will continue to play both these games this year and as Destiny advances I will continue to play it until Destiny 2 comes out 10 yrs later as well. Bungie is seeking solidity in this game and it is getting where it needs to be, just be patient.
-
11 destiny maps on crucible uhhh I think I've played 4
-
If you only play clash and control, then yeah there are about 4 or 5. There are different maps for the smaller game modes like skirmish and rumble
-
Finaly someone put it in maths terms for these froobs to understan
-
I was not told I was buying call of dookie in space. If I had been told I would not have been there at midnight to get it.
-
Just my opinion, but this is nothing like Call of Duty, much more like Halo.
-
Lol indeed
-
-
Right!!
-
Bungie... You dont charge the same amount of money for two very different things. Youre screwing xbox hard. Were paying the same amount. Give us what were paying for. As of now, someone who has been in love with your company and games will, not bat an eye at anything else you create. And this dlc is nothing. The fact you dont listen to your fans is the reason im jumping ship. MCC comes out soon. Halo is coming. And a HUGE portion of your fan base IS NEVER going to come back. Do you even give a blam?
-
oh really thats why playstation for the past several years has been getting the short end of the stick with games like Call of Duty and Dead Rising to show it. Stop bitching about it and take it like everyone that plays playstation has if you played most mainstream games for the past 5-10 years
-
Games like cod just do like a 2 week early access i thought. Idk i dont play it. Its regurgitation meant for idiots. Either way if im completely honest, ive been jealous o ps exclusives for ever. I mean who doesnt wanna play uncharted. Im only bitching about the fact that we are straight up paying the same price for less content. That's all. Doesnt seem right. Im not alone in thinking that. If the game didnt lack in content no one would bitch anyway. Theyre bringing it upon themselves.
-
No their not you will still get the exact same amount of content for the same price you just have to wait, and do you think that people on psn dont want to play Left 4 Dead, Dead Rising 1 and 3 Titan fall or one of the other plethora of games that we will never see on our native console. For the first time ever in terms of DLC xbox gets the short end of the stick and now people are bitching about it you dont see play-station users going on forums complaining to companys that its not fair we dont get the DLC at the same time your not getting ripped off your just pissed that for once the console you play on isn't the priority in the world of gameing
-
Bungie doesn't make these decisions. Activision is the publisher, so they make the decisions. It's okay to complain, just complain to the right people
-
I hear ya man. So its activisions fault i wont play bungie games anymore. Haha. Bungie will realize screwing their most loyal fans was a huge mistake. Sorry. Allowing activision. But thats the least important thing. The fact they dont listen to their fans anymore is whats making me jump ship.
-
I want you to consider how much more money Halo would have made if Bungie didn't have an exclusive deal with Microsoft...If Halo had come to PS2 I don't think Xbox would have stayed around. Halo supported the entire Xbox brand. Many playstation users have been wishing for that series, and now that Bungie is finally doing something that leans in favor for Playstation users, people want to slam them. Xbox users have had exclusive right to one of, if not the best, franchise in history. At least you still get Destiny. Imagine if Destiny was a Playstation exclusive game.
-
A 2 week incentive is fine. We wait 2 weeks for the same thing. Whatevs. We wait a year for our money to complete the dlc? No. No. No.
-
I feel you. I do. Throw ps a bone. Weve had halo for 10 years. Okay. 100percent agree. Dont charge me the same, amount of money for less content though. Period end of,story. I smell a lawsuit. Ea got sued for a crappy bf launch. Hell redbull got sued for not giving ppl wings!! Bungie/activision will def be facing a lawsuit in regards to false advertising and/or price gouging. You give less, we pay less. Just a prediction. You cant charge the same, amount when one is,clearly offering more content. And sry bout spelling ~ grammar. Im on a phone. No cares. Lol
-
Your not getting less content you just have to wait longer for it honestly games like Call of Duty have been giving playstation the short end of the stick for years and we have paid the same amount for the same content we just had to wait longer dont bitch about it when you just have to wait for it. Again at least the game isnt psn exclusive.
-
Sorry dude. 2 weeks is one thing. A year is,another. They lost me. Among thousands of other loyal fans. You say you got the short end of the stick. How. You guys got to play for free for an entire generation. Sorry you had to wait 2 weeks for dlc. Noone ever made you wait a year lol. Let alone your favorite developer. Just a slap in the fave to loyal fans. Thats all.
-
Like that hasnt happened to us? And if it was just two weeks i would agree with you but in a lot of instances we actually get less content when xbox gets exclusive DLC or little bits of add on content when we paid the same amount as you guys not to mention there have been times where DLC was released for xbox that we never got and never will get
-
And i dont have a ps past 2. So i didn't know yall got screwed liket hat in the past. Def sucks man. And it,hits hard when its y i ur fav. Developer whos been making games specifically for your console.
-
Honestly though, good chat haha. Hands down the most civil 2 warring console gamers have ever debated i feel like hahaha
