That's right, Aileron, not avian, my bad. But still, they have a huge difference in combat efficiency in dogfights. Aileron is pretty useless. Where as the barrel roll actually helps to minimize a constant pattern for automated gun fire, however you have to change the pitch and roll frequently or else it also becomes predictable.
