Destiny is console exclusive, which means almost all players play on a television, not a monitor. Many of these players play on plasma screens, millions in fact. The average play session of Destiny is logged by Bungie at 4 hours. I fall around that mark, and that's about all I've used my TV for lately, as I'm sure is the same for many players.
This leads to a huge problem, one that may have already permanently damaged my near $3K TV, the HUD is burnt into my display.
I'm a very proud owner of the "65in Panasonic VT60, and I paid a very pretty penny for it. Millions of others also playDestiny on plasmas, and the fact is no matter how "worn in" a plasma is, it is still prone to burn-in or image retention.
Either can occur after a static image is left on the screen for an extended period of time, like say, playing Destiny for a few hours a day, with no other content appearing on the TV in between.
From my recent average playtime, I now have a retained image of the bottom left HUD area burnt in my display; super bar, all 3 weapon slots, among blur where ammo is counted and so on.
I left my TV wiping for 12 hours, and the image is still there.
(Update 11/19) My TV has been wiping for almost 24 hours, and still has the HUD clearly burned in.
(Update 11/20) My TV has been wiping for almost 48 hours straight. The HUD is still there, but instead of a dark gray shadow, it seems to be a tinge of pink. This is a bad sign)
There is a simple solution for preventing this, and still being able to enjoy long play sessions. Battlefield 4 got this perfect right off the bat, they added the option to adjust HUD opacity in the video options. This completely stomped the possibility for image retention, and even after hundreds of hours of gameplay I never had a problem.
For those who don't know, this option would make it possible to have your HUD slightly see-through so the pixels are being stimulated.
This is a very big deal, and has the potential to ruin many plasmas, only from playing Destiny for an average play session, even with days in between.
BUNGIE PLEASE, add a simple HUD opacity slider and put all your plasma owners at ease.
Love, every Destiny player with a plasma.

Panasonic.... snuff said.
-
lol millions on plasma then followed by the word FACT only idiots buy plasma over LCD and LED... your a shame to gamers everywhere
-
Panasonic plasmas are the bomb... To replace the image quality on mine i would have to get a nice 4k. I have had mine for like 5 years and its still rocking. Will use it till it dies or i find a 4k OLED to replace it with at a decent price. Yes they are heavy but if you have a good one the only real issue is that they are power hogs and produce some major heat. Anyone knocking them knows squat about A/V

Never buy plasma there garbage.
-
People still use plasma?
-
Just so people know... Plasmas don't burn images anymore like the first gen plasmas When they where first introduced into the market. That was fixed along time ago... Plasmas IN MY OPINION are the best choice for gaming... I've had a samsung LCD, Sony led and am currently gaming on a 65" Panasonic plasma and love it!

The only legit thing that the forum community should beg and moan for. I support this through and through.

Good lord people can be jerks on here. Here is a few things for you to try. 1: turn your tv to white noise (static) for 12-24 hours. This causes the white and black pixels to move randomly across the screen and diminish the burn it. 2: if that doesn't work you can hook a commuter to it and run a program like this one. http://www.jads.co.uk/screen-repair/jscreenfix-deluxe#TOC-Download-and-Install 3: once it's fixed or for anyone with a plasma and older led tv's turn your brightness and contrast down and it will decrease possible but in. Hope this helps

Jesus the comments in this thread are absurd. The trolling never ends. Sorry for your burn issues though man, I noticed this on an older plasma that my friends and I were using as a spare TV as well. Not a huge demand to add the opacity slider and a good idea to improve the game. Hope Bungie hears you!

Edited by Marcello101 (TIMELOST): 12/22/2014 1:46:43 PMYou should have known when purchasing a plasma sir. I currently play on a 60" Samsung Plasma. I roughly have 250 hours played. No burn in issues.

Haven't seen someone crying about burn-in in years...
-
OLED master race

Edited by steppinrazor: 12/18/2014 8:35:36 PMYeah, how dare you even have a plasma tv. And worse, ask for a change in the game as massive as an opacity change. They just fixed a typo in the German version, what more could you possibly want? Some people are just never happy.

If you leave anything running for days it will burn in good job mate
-
LED FTW ;)
-
Yeah, my old TV had the Resident evil 5 weapon display burned into the corner
-
I have a 60" LG plasma that's four years old. It kinda burns in a bit but then goes away in a few hours. I've never had anything burn while playing though. Just when it was on idle.

You purchased a plasma tv, you knew this was coming.
-
why do you still have a Plasma TV?
-
Plasma should be dead by now m8 it's all about OLed
-
Spending 3k. On a tv that is not better than 1080p is just dumb as -blam!-. Playing on anything over a 50 inch increases input lag. 1 should bought an led smart tv for way less with a little less refresh rate. 2 maybe you should not play said video games knowing what will most likely happen.
-
Should have bought an LED. Bought a 65" Sony LED TV a few years back and she's still running strong.

Edited by NINE1SIX: 12/17/2014 10:32:09 PMWow, 3k for a t.v. and you still have to worry about burn in? Poor choices... Samsung LED
-
Or turn the TV and go play outside. I'm a problem solver yo.

Change to LED, plasma is obsolete technology.
