Things about the raid I have learned the hard way ...

... or "the devil is in the details". This is certainly not an interesting read for players who have done the raid, but maybe for those who haven't and would like to. I have done the normal raid a few times, and everytime I did I learned something new by failing. So here's a brief description of the Atheon fight, includig small list of details I find worth knowing.

Atheon Fight General Proceedings During the Atheon fight, the following happens: 1. Atheon shoots at the players. Just stay out of harms way. 2. Atheon freezes, random teleports three players to a relic area, and sends out supplicants 3. The three relic area players need to grab the relic shield, kill all oracles, and return through a portal 4. The remaining three players need to open the proper portal to the relic area the other three players are in 5. Time's Vengeance starts: The relic bearer sets up a protective shield where all players gather and fire away at Atheon, having a fivefold damage increase during that time 6. Rinse and repeat until Atheon is dead Relic Area During the Atheon fight, three players are teleported randomly to one of two shield relic areas. The relic areas have a very simple and linear structure. The player spawn point is at one end, the portal the area must be exited through is at the other end. A staircase leads down from the player spawn to a central plaza, from where another staircase leads up to the portal. Mobs are initially placed at that central plaza. One relic area looks like Venus (jungle), the other area looks like Mars (desert). This is important (see below). While in the relic area, the vision of all players gets obscured more and more until they are blind. The relic bearer needs to cleanse all players there with the relic to remove that effect. The effect will start over shortly after cleansing. Relic One of the players needs to pick up the shield relic, kill the enemies in that area and cleanse the other two team mates. The cleanse function of the shield depends on the grenade attack and needs a short while to charge. During that while, the relic player can attack the mobs in the middle of the shield area if he wants to. For a powerful attack, jump and press the fire button, resulting in an attack similar to the Titan's powerfist attack. Once the grenade attack is charged, pressing the grenade button and keeping it pressed generates a shield around the relic bearer. Whoever is in that shield gets cleansed. Once the mobs are dead, the relic bearer needs to accompany the other two players to the portal, cleansing them as needed on their way. Oracles The other two players need to concentrate on the oracles, shooting them as fast as possible. The oracles start spawning high up in the air near the players' start location, with each successive one spawning closer to the portal than the previous one. Think of a line connecting player start and portal: The oracles will spawn left and right in a corridor around that line, each being closer to the portal than the previous one, chainlink fashion. Knowing this makes it much easier for newbies to locate and kill the oracles. The oracles are glowing red (not yellow like during the Templar phase). If done well, cleansing the players three times (once near the player spawn, once in the area's center, once near the portal) is sufficient. This requires the two players shooting oracles to stay close to each other and proceed to the portal while destroying oracles. Mobs Venus has an additional Minotaur which needs a bit caution to kill, and which will recover 30% of its health/shields when meeleing a player. One of the oracle shooters may help to take that Minotaur down in the beginning. Portals Each relic area is linked to a portal in the Atheon arena. Once three players have been sent to a relic area, the remaining three players need to open that area's portal. In order to know which portal to open, one of the players in the relic area needs to announce which area they have been sent to: Jungle = Venus -> right portal, desert -> Mars -> left portal. To open the proper portal, at least one player needs to stay on its sink plate until the portal is established. Once that has happened, it will stay open. Atheon will send out supplicants during this phase, which basically are very strong harpies that insta-kill when meleeing players, so stay away from them. Heavy machine guns work very well against them. A very important thing to know about the portal is that only one player may leave the relic area through it at a time. If two or more pass it simultaneously, all but one will be sent back to the relic area side of the portal, which is very annoying and irritating. Time's Vengeance Time's vengeance is a 30 second period of time during which all players deal fivefold damage to Atheon. Time's vengeance starts as soon as the last oracle in the relic area is destroyed. During Time's Vengeance, the relic bearer can use the relic's shield not only to cleanse his team, but to set up a protective shield bubble, similar to the Titan, but with the difference of shots fired inside of it being able to get out. The relic bearer therefore needs to leave the relic area first, with the other two players coming after him. This bubble is impenetrable for Atheon's projectiles; However the projectiles' splash damage can pass it at its sides! Passing through the portal creates an irritating and disorienting visual effect. It needs some practise to pass through it and proceed to the area from where Atheon is best to be fought. The relic bearer needs to set up the shield at that place, which can either be in the far back of the map right in front of the entrance, or on the small central platform a bit further into the map. The location in the back of the map has the advantage of players being less prone to die of splash damage done by Atheon's projectiles, but the players take longer to get there and lose valuable "vengeance" time. You are safe from splash damage on the small middle platform if you stay away from the pillar at its left edge. With a little practise, the players coming through the portal can boost right onto that platform once the relic shield is up there. Once the relic shield is up, fire away at Atheon. DPS is vital here. Move into cover no later than 3 - 5 seconds before Time's Vengeance expires, or you will have a high chance to die. Reviving Dead Players Do not revive dead players right before or during Time's Vengeance! You will lose valuable time where you can deal a lot of damage to Atheon on top of what is lost due to players being dead already. Revive them when Time's Vengeance is over.
