I tend to adapt to whatever the others are doing, but in general I prefer to be a runner. The way I see it, there are two reasons for doing a strike: either you have some kind of bounty (complete a strike without dying or kill the boos of that strike) and/or you want to get the rewards at the end. In both cases, it makes sense to get the strike done as quickly as possible and avoid as much conflict as you can (to minimise the chance of death). Obviously, the first few times I did each strike, I played through it fully to experience it. But once you have done it like 30 times, you know exactly what enemies are where and what happens. There's no real thrill or excitement (apart from maybe in a hard boss fight) and all the enemies are the same ones you've faced countless times. There is little point in killing enemies you don't have to. What could you possibly gain from it? Engrams? Well, yeah, but if you complete the strike quickly and move on to the next, you'll probably be killing a similar number of enemies in a given timespan, so your chances of getting engrams is the same. XP? The low level enemies give paltry amounts of that, and really, what's the point once you've passed level 20? Motes of Light are hardly essential. In summary, it is the most logical and efficent thing to do. Like I said, if the others want to take their time, I will stick with them. I won't be that asshole who runs off, dies, and essentially abandons the team. But I don't get any of the hate for people that prefer to run. It just makes the most sense.

It's funny that you touched on the "hate." That's exactly what prompted this post. All yesterday the polls were around 67/33 Runners to Completionists. Now it's much closer to 60/40. Very close. That said, people play how they want to play. For some it's just... Different. The mature crowd understands this and just adapts, but there are those that would report someone for just playing differently than them. Some runners have already commented that they don't care what the other 2 team members do. They run regardless and go for boss kills. In their eyes they're helping the other 2 by giving them a free boss kill, in the eyes of the other 2, the runner is being a jerk and abandoning them... See the issue? I started the poll so the community could see the very real numbers (and comments) about this very real issue. Thanks for commenting!

  • Actually reading what you just said, and thinking back to the only time it got a bit annoying with runners was when I was new to strikes. When 2 people load up who dont really know what they are doing and where they are going and the 3rd experienced person and shoots off, that can get frustrating. I remember having that early on, that's why I myself am always conscious of people who are struggling or seem like they don't know what they are doing and help them out.

  • "Community player" may just need to be my other option. I like your mentality. I always use the "inspect" player option. If they're low level but sporting a 2,000 grimoire score they obviously know what's up. However, not every level 20+ you meet has done this stuff as much as we have. They may have just hit 20, but had enough coins to buy an exotic last weekend and threw it on. So, the whole book and cover thing applies. Thanks again for posting.
