This was one of the first things I tried in this game. It never seemed to work for me. Tried it the other day and it still did nothing. Is there any particular type of wall I should be looking for, or is this a troll post that I've fallen for?

  • It does work with anything. Including rocks. But you have to be able to literally peek over what ever it is you're hiding behind. If it's too tall, you wont be able to do it. When i found out about it i did some testing to see what its limits were. Try it out so you can "guesstimate" what heights and covers you can peek over on the fly during a firefight.

  • It works, but I could never tell what kind of cover specifically though seems like it has to be literally designed for cover and just some random rock or box

  • Yeah I randomly found this out when finishing the strike on Mars. They have small dividers on the second floor. It seems to work best when you are towards the edge of an item.

It's not trolling. Cover has to be something you can see and fire over while standing, usually against a target at the same axis or higher. You crouch down right behind it, then aim, and your character will pop over it. Don't know how well it would work against a target below you. Give it another try.
