Not break down my door but I have been in situations where guns where drawn. Usually when they say hands up don't move keep them where we can see them. I do what they ask instead of running around like a fool.

Ok so say someone was to call a swat team to your house. Say one of your family members reacts in panic and the swat team sees it as a threat and shoots. Your family member is now dead. Why? Did they do anything? Nope. But some punk called a swat team because he has no sense of what is worth killing over...

They called in saying it was a hostage situation and the guy was armed. Where I am from we keep guns close to our beds and if someone breaks down a door... well the first reaction is to grab it and either yell "who is there, I have a gun!" or just wait in the room till the door opens and start shooting. So..... yea. Just because some people may act correctly for a swat break in, doesn't mean we all are expecting the goods guys breaking down our door.

Unless it's a complete crew of rookie cops and SWAT who have zero experience with hostage situations, they will either call the land-line phone number to try and reach someone inside the house, or they will try to find a way to communicate with the hostage takers inside and find out their demands. The ONLY time they "break in" is when they feel they have the upper hand, and can overwhelm the perpetrators with force, which is typically a last resort option and only after all other tactics or options have been exhausted. Where I'm from, we also believe in protecting your home and your family, to the death if need be. Unlike your people, it seems, we have common sense and don't immediately wave guns around as our go-to method for all situations. Like i said, unless the authorities explicitly ignore protocol and go all out Johnny Law and start shooting up the place like cowboys, so long as people stay calm and do as instructed, harm, casualties, and destruction of property will be kept at a minimum.

Again, if it's cops, they would try and make contact first before busting in. If it's a legitimate break-in by criminals, obviously I would arm myself and protect my family.

Right, you just have to freak out and do something that no sane, rational person would do, like wave a remote or other handheld object at an armed police officer, make a run for it, or move in an aggressive manner. Lie down on your face with your hands behind your back on the floor in an open room and remain calm. If you are not perceived as a threat, there is no reason for law enforcement to shoot you. If you ARE somehow injured or harmed after following the instructions of law enforcement, you will be a very rich person after filing a lawsuit. Half of my family has been in law-enforcement for a few decades. I know how it works. Accidents happen, sure, but most of them can be avoided if people stop doing stupid, irrational things.

What if the people inside have guns and just hear their door being knocked down? People will get shot and probably killed. This situation is horrible.

You don't joke about 911 calls. You don't take things seriously enough. This is someone's life. Someone could have been shot if a policeman thought he saw the wrong thing through the window. You just don't get it....
