Yeah. I'm talking about a thousand or so years ago when there were only natives in Canada who had no concept of marriage :P

So because we've done it this way for thousands of years, we should continue to do it? It used to be an exchange of property/land for a woman. Should we go back to that?
-
Well, I guess you're right, but do they want to be married through the church? Cuz you know what some Christians are like about it.
-
I'm not talking about marriage in a church, I'm talking about laws.
-
Ok. don't mind too much how it turns out but it shouldn't be called marriage. I should be something different.
-
Why should it be called something different if it has all the same things?
-
To make everyone happy because let's face it; there are some Christians out there WAY less tolerable than ones like me and you'll never get all of them to agree.
-
They don't need to agree. Just call it all marriage and be done with it. It's not infringing upon their rights or beliefs.
-
You can't just 'be done with it' like that there would be protests.
-
Protesting what? Equal treatment under the law? Nobody is forcing them to marry a gay person. It has literally no effect on anyone else. If anything, it's good for small businesses that do things like wedding photography, catering, flowers, etc because there will be more weddings.
-
But people who don't agree (fundamentalists) aren't going to let it happen. They will argue and likely protest anyway even if it has no moral reason
