So I had a fun little gaming conversation comparing exclusives of the major console exclusives, the pros and cons, and what kind of games each company does best, and somebody tried to argue that Nintendo Gamers are like 'mobile gamers'(edit: as in cell phones, not handhelds like ds or vita), they don't really count.
His argument pertained party games and common exclusives that Nintendo come out with aren't really proper games, Smash Brothers was for children and Legend of Zelda is nothing but a nostalgia series at this point. Didn't really give an opinion on Metroid, he just scoffed.
What're your opinions personally?
Edit: I'm glad to see a good degree of people responding logically realizing that, in my opinion, the term gamer is a rather inclusive term itself.

Edited by VIK3_1990: 11/21/2014 7:16:26 AMConsidering I'm a nintendo gamer (n64 plugged into my tv right now) I gotta say hell yeah! Pretty sad how people say you aren't a gamer if you play nintendo games
-
Of course they are, no matter which platform you play you are still a gamer.
-
Seeing as playstation, or Xbox didn't existed back when Nintendo reigned supreme I'm guessing the guy that sayed that didn't exist either I rember the good old days when you went to block buster and rented Mario party, star fox 64, conker 64, and Pokemon colosseum and paying 20 Dollars in late fee because blockbuster had the entertainment industry in lock for the longest ... " what do you mean I can't rent a movie because I forgot my block buster card at home" so glad they got what they deserved
-
Gamers they are! Come on now! Bs coming out of his mouth

Edited by Noshotskill: 11/21/2014 7:57:12 AMThe irony is Nintendo is the only company capable of releasing a AAA game without game breaking issues right now. Bungie, 343i, Activision, and Ubisoft I'm looking at you.
-
Yes, I think they do.
-
Absolutely. The definition of "gamer" isn't reduced to people (males) from 12-42 that play 1st person shooters.
-
Sounds like your friend you were talking to is a biased, anti-nintendo fanboy. I wouldn't take his opinion too seriously, especially when he calls Zelda a "nostalgia series" and doesn't comment on games like Metroid.
-
Of course they are gamers! Super Smash Bro series still has tournaments at EVO which is one if not the top fighting game tournament in the world. Nintendo games usually are pandered towards a younger audience but there are adult themes and sexual themes if you look close enough at them that people usually miss. They've started to add more mature title such as the Bayonetta series and The Devil's Third which also happen to be exclusive to the Wii U minus the original Bayonetta.
-
I became a gamer ON Nintendo. Doesn't matter what system you're using. Gamer is a gamer.
-
Nintendo started as a company that made playing cards in the 1880's. I'd say they're the OG of the gaming world.
-
If memory served me right the Nes was released in 82 or 83. Most of the older gamers will remember the joy of dropping bowser in the lava and then being crushed to read the princess is in another castle. Over the years Nintendo has produced some really great games like the legend of zelda series, metroid series and of course super mario bros. If you don't think Nintendo is for gamers dust off the old Nes and play ghost and goblins or the original castlevania and then say Nintendo people aren't real gamers.
-
They absolutely are gamers. People underestimate Nintendo because they rehash their games/series. Just because Nintendo isn't as competitive today as they were against Sony or Sega doesn't mean they aren't a viable company. The fact is Nintendo, in my opinion, know their fans and what the fans like. So why change to appease everyone else? Also, Nintendo is more geared towards a Japanese audience, unlike Sony, who is also Japanese, who is more focused on a global market. Is it bad? Maybe, but it does give them an identity and shows that they're committed to their games and fans. Honestly if someone says Nintendo gamers aren't gamers I'd brand them as ignorant. Where would video games be today without Nintendo's influence? Sure that was in the past, but it helped shape gaming into what it is today.
-
Nintendo invented the gaming company They are THE gaming company
-
Nintendo revolutionized the VG industry.. And brought us games that love in a special place in me heart... I may be old now but i still pop out my game cube and play super mario strikers , or sunshine, or melee Because its "fun"
-
They are gamers, the nicer more well mannered gamers.
-
Well since Nintendo saved the video game industry, are one of the oldest companies in gaming being 125 years old and have revolutionised the video game industry and are still going strong today, I would say people (including myself) who play on Nintendo consoles should be classed as gamers, Legend of Zelda isn't just nostalgic Link between worlds (the latest one) was fantastic as I think every Zelda game is. Smash is actually a quite competitive game with tournaments for it. Metroid was an amazing game but since there hasn't been one in some time, who knows where that is going. Mario is the most famous video game in history as almost everybody can recognise him. With bayonetta 2 just been released (one of the best games on the Wii U) that can be seen as a game for gamers. With many other iconic games and characters that have helped the video game industry out, I think Nintendo gamers are gamers just like anyone who plays one Playstation consoles, Xbox consoles and on the PC along with any other consoles I haven't mentioned
-
We all grew up on a Nintendo, and so is this newer generation. Its purposely aimed towards kids, they're the future "gamers"
-
Regardless of their current consoles, Nintendo is still a vital part of the gaming world, most of its characters are older than both Sony and Microsoft exclusives. And let's not forget what the N64 did for consoles and how much it expanded what developers did with games, think you'd have pvp like you do now without Goldeneye?
-
I think a gamer is anyone who spends excessive amounts of time on a single game(s).
-
HAHAHAHAHAA no.
-
Smash Bros? Smash Bros.
-
Shut ur gobber If you didn't grow up on Nintendo you shouldn't call yourself a legit gamer
-
I speed run Mario, am I a "gamer"? Lol
-
That person was faggit... Most gamers grew up on Nintendo.
-
I don't see why not - at least they're not iOS/Android "gamers"
