Crota looks like a normal knight so far. I hope at least he'll have a different look in-game like how Atheon is just a megatron-looking minotaur.

He is using a staff in the prologue, we destroyed his sword in the base game

According to another article posted by bungie elsewhere on the magical interwebs we too will be able to wield a sword. Most likely it will just be in another story mission, but it would be cool to see it in the new strike or even the raid.
