So I was hunting for Relic Iron on Mars, popping Cabal helmets and generally kicking back when I cam across another player who obviously had the same thing in mind. Guy was a level 30 Warlock. Regardless, this dude was a total gent. Without a word exchanged between us, he went ahead looking for crates while I kept the Cabal off our backs. Every time he found one, he would dance to get my attention and wait for me to come over before opening it up.
Now I know this may not seem like a big deal but it was really nice to see common courtesy and community spirit on display. So hats off to you, dude.
Anyone elae encountered nice people out there planetside? Who stopped to help you or just showed some cooperative spirit? Give them a shout out here to let them know we appreciate it. Us Guardians gotta stick together.
*Edit* Wow, so many replies! Good work to all you helpers out there, bringing a little extra Light to your fellow Guardians. Nice to see some good natured people considering how much negativity there is on the forum. Keep it up, guys!

I was running a strike with a friend the other day and there was a group trying to get into the VoG. The guy I was with never saw the vault being opened and I was like "screw the other guy I want you to see this." We helped them from the spire and as the door opened the third guy came back for us and we all got a good laugh.

I do that and point and dance, I'll even pop off shots at the guardian to get attention, but if they don't notice after about a minute I continue on. I also will join in on an ongoing run to not mess up chest rotation, but people are silly.

I was having a hard time farming spirit blooms on Venus, and just when I was about to give up this lvl 26 guy came out of nowhere and joined me. So I figured I'd follow home because I had no idea where these chests are besides in the caves, and he was finding chests in spots I'd never even think about looking. Thanks again Guardian.

I had a very similar experience and once my compatriot had collected all the Relic Iron they needed they waved goodbye and I thought I would never see them again. Cut to last week in the Iron Banner when someone with a very familiar PSN starts wrecking my face. All's fair.

Praetorian almost got me on Venus but Le random sniper crit shot. A blue engram hit me in the face.

Edited by XiX GhOsTx XiX: 11/23/2014 8:28:40 PMHad this same thing happen on the moon. I was farming for helium filaments in Archers Line, was doing the chest run and I saw another guy come up behind me and start following me. We make a couple rounds and pick up another person on the way so there's 3 of us doing the chest run. Whoever would find it would either point/dance/shoot etc and everyone would run over and grab it. We did it for about 30 minutes or so with the three of us. Then we had a Fireteam of two people join us and we did that for another 30-40 minutes. It's rather amusing watching 5 people run around in a circle and even more amusing when a chest was on the ledge of the particular accelerator, it was quite tricky for all of us to get up there in time lol Anyways, shout out to those guys and people like them. It's nice to see people working together for a common goal without trying to screw anyone else.

i met a guy on Mars during a chest run. We ran for about 45 minutes just pointing and dancing and shooting. I ended up inviting him and his friend to do the raid on normal with us. It went really well and I was glad we could turn our wordless relationship into a raid experience. :-) yesterday I think I ended up with 4 randoms running the same route. We all came at different times and it got to the point where we would branch out and each of us would take a cave until someone found something. No talking other than "points" and "dances". I really enjoy that it happens on material farms. What I don't like is the people who are selfish. They are running the opposite direction of me. So I start to follow them, and what happens? THEY TURN AROUND AND RUN THE OTHER WAY! Why? Why would anyone do this? I don't take away from your loot. We share the chests. It's a win win.

Love when players do this. It's rare, but respectable. More often than not people just run ahead and grab chests without saying a word. Or don't know the proper route with all the chests so they're always ahead of you grabbing them before you can get there. I've taken the time to try to show some people the proper places they all spawn in different areas. Usually they just run away and completely ruin my chest runs. Kudos to those willing to learn and help others.

Why can't all the nerf posts be replaced with material like this.
-
I've had many patrols like what you're describing! Usually I 'point' to loot chests and/or resource materials if I see a random nearby. Some acknowledge and come right over and return a greeting in thanks, some take and move on. But I've had some pretty nice 'mat' farms with randoms this way :)
-
I'm one of thems folks, hit me up if ya see me. Got a photographic memory, I know where the stuff is.
-
Since Bungie made the game such that you are not competing for the chest or materials, it seems foolish NOT to share. I will try to get nearby players attention when I find chest/materials and almost always I get reciprocated. I'll leave an area if there is someone there who thinks it's a competition to get stuff and just runs through grabbing without sharing. Life's too short to deal with that.

Edited by Omerta Enforcer: 11/23/2014 9:51:55 PMHave had this happen a few times and try to do this myself

My friends and I were attempting a raid for the first time (had NO CLUE what we were getting ourselves into). We started with a team of 5 and 1 of our guys left, so it was only 4 of us. After getting wiped for the 100th time and on the borderline of calling it quits, an awesome level 28 came and dance battled with me. I sent an invite his way and he joined up with us. He even invited his level 30 friend and they walked us through the entire Raid showing us their strategy and where all the currently known chests were. Good times!!

Great ! Now can we get the same for when the heavy amo spawns in pvp
-
I ALWAYS check for ppl firat. I have some, really good routes memorized, so I point or shoot as much as I can if someone is nearby. I know how much it sucks seeing a chest disappear as I try to loot it. :(
-
I am a 30 lock and always do this. I even switch weapons and shower others with bullets to get their attention. Is this thread about me? Lol
-
I mostly get people who run ahead and grab the chests before I get there. Then it becomes an annoying race :/
-
I actually find some nice people on Mars when hunting for chest/RI. Hell, at one point, it started with me, then another and then another... soon we had a whole party of 5 of us, working in tandem going through the chest/RI farm run on Mars. Omg we did quite a few circuits before people had to go... it was awesome! We all checked every nook and cranny, waited for everyone to catch up. I wish I had been capturing at the time... would have loved to put that up with some Benny Hill music!
-
I've had some good but mostly bad experiences with pepole
-
Whenever I go chest hunting I always get the nearest players attention first and call them over to let them get stuff too.
-
I try to do the same by firing at them to let them know "Hey there is a box here"
-
Though I make a conscious effort to share chests and materials, sometimes you just have to realize that there are players doing their own thing. I have no problem with that. The ones I tend to shy away from are the players running through areas or on vehicles rushing through everything without even a hint of stopping and shooting anything. I understand that they are farming as quick as they can, but it seems boring just racing from location to location without becoming engaged in some fighting and helping others out. Particularly since I seem to get more engrams from killing enemies than looting chests.

Edited by Dabsta: 11/23/2014 8:54:07 PMI had a guy come up and start punching me. When I noticed him he ran off! So, I ignored it, then suddenly I was under a hail of bullets! I turn and see him spraying at me from inside a cave! I rush him with the intent on titan punching his helmet in, only to see an unopened crate waiting for us! He took like 2 minutes getting, and maintaining my attention. That man, is the true mvp in my book. Best 46 glimmer ever :)

I know this guy named Dittoe in my friends, he always solo's the nightfall and gets everything done. After all that he just goes around helping people, what a great dude.
