Hello other dads. I have a question I'm hoping for some enlightenment that Googling alone has failed to satisfy. I have Destiny on PS3 and have placed plenty of hours of commitment into the game (level 29 Warlock and 27 Titan).
If and when my wife and I buy a PS4 down the road will I be able to transfer my data without having to buy the PS4 version of the game and start over?
We just bought the PS3 at the beginning of this year (used) and don't anticipate an upgrade in the near future (a bummer for sure). Again, Google searching hasn't shed enough clarity on this particular subject as on one hand I've read that "yes one can do [this] indefinitely" and another saying "yes, only until January [then you're screwed."
Sorry if this is dumb question but I'm certainly not afraid to inquire. Thanks for any and all feedback.
Cheers mates.

I play on PS3 and PS4. Your game data is actually saved on the Destiny server, so everything you've done will transfer over to the PS4, but you're still going to need to have a copy of the game to play it on the PS4 unless you bought the upgrade version when the game released. This version was offered on release day. You were offered instead of buying the physical copy for PS3 a digital version and along with it was a free upgrade to the PS4 version. So in short, your save data is ready for PS4 but you're still gonna need a copy of the game to play, whether digital or physical.
