I think they took it out to stop people from using the new marks for mats system as a rep loop. I'll try to explain: at a certain point, what do I need marks for? But I can always use rep. So I could've, in theory, shelled out a bunch of marks to buy mats, then turned those mats in for rep. You lose out in the end, of course, but players would still do it. Add that to the fact that they added mats as the rewards for the daily heroic and patrol bounties, and you would've had a lot more people using mats to rep up. I'm sorry that you're missing out. I only did the mat exchange a couple of times, so it doesn't affect me that much. I hated losing time farming, so I'm happy with the change, but I can understand why yer bummed.

  • It's not really a loop though, it's a lot more like a spiral because eventually it runs out and you hit a dead end in the middle. There are diminishing returns when you use that system so I still don't see the problem with it.

  • The solution to that is to not sell the items for marks. 1000 glimmer for 20 mats maybe?

  • I can get 1k glimmer from a 3 min farm on exclusion zone with resupply codes....I'd have mats falling out my ass if they did it that way lol

  •
The solution to that is to not sell the items for marks. 1000 glimmer for 20 mats maybe?
This would actually be worse, because then you could turn around and essentially buy marks/rep by buying the mats with glimmer, which has been useless at endgame outside of IB, and then exchanging the mats you bought for marks/rep. Again, the game is about to be flooded with mats, because you can also get mats from completing the daily heroic and from the daily patrol quest. To balance this out, you have to take away the mats exchange. I get that this sucks for people who got by doing the mats exchange. I had no idea so many people did this (I've only done it twice, for example). To me, farming mats was the worst. This change satisfies the largest portion of their player base (which doesn't mean PvPers), but people who hated farming.

Well, no, because then how would you rep up to buy the gear in the first place? Edit: Faction items, duh.

  • I never thought of rep loop /doh. Wondered why they took it away. Yeah removing rep gains would mean they could put it back in & it would only be crucible gear that was unobtainable without pvp, which kinda makes sense anyway :)

  • I only thought of it because I would've done it. Haha. Who doesn't hate grinding rep? Especially Crucible rep. Yeesh, brutal.
