Wait wait wait let me get this straight, you like to play a game where the point is you shoot aliens and you get rewarded for shooting stuff, and you don't like to shoot at aliens/human/robots in armor?? I'm not following through with this. I like PvP and pve but there is no way in hell am I going to play farmville with cool rooty footy point and snooty.

You gather while you do patrol missions and bounties. The stuff is everywhere and free. And you shoot things while you do it. You can gather way more than you need without even trying.
