I got a vita a little while ago simply for remote play but I was very depressed by it. It doesn't work 30 feet away from my ps4 granted I'm not wired cause my router is downstairs but even when I'm wired it isn't a whole lot better and I haven't gotten it to work off of my wi-fi. Over all the 3 games I have (little big planet, Tearaway, (very good) and the waking dead) weren't that interesting enough for me to have keep the 200$ system and thinking of selling it. does the direct connect trick make it that much better or is there any way to improve remote play

I find that over WiFi it works better, even if you're next to your ps4 (although I do have good internet speeds, that's what matters the most for this)

Works for me!

I use my home network. It works great for me.

Turn off direct connect on the PS4. With it on its using its own wifi signal to connect to the vita. With that off, it will use your home network and you'll be able to go anywhere you have a wifi signal. I remote play when I'm not home. The Vita is the best thing to go with PS4. Now saying that, online multiplayer fps games are rough to play on remote play. There is virtually no lag if your in your home network but noticeable connecting via Internet. It's the only game I can't play affectively through the Internet.

Just finished reading your entire post. Direct connect works great but the range is limited because it's using the built in antenna on the PS4. It will not use your router.
