Actually, the new system is probably fairer to all players. Previously, a PvE player had access to all vendors yet never needed to set foot in the Crucible. PvP players, on the other hand, were forced to play PvE in order to get Ascendant and world materials to upgrade stuff, even if the gear dropped in the Crucible or came as a Crucible/Faction rank reward. They also had to play PvE in order to complete the Exotic bounties.
Now, PvP players still need to play PvE if they want to max their gear (and to reach level 30, unless I'm mistaken) and PvE is still a far more reliable place to get Exotic gear (Nightfall). PvE players must play Crucible to get Crucible marks.
I'm a PvE player, but in my heart I can't really see this as unfair. When you look at the structure of Destiny, it really looks like they wanted every player to participate in the whole game, not just PvE or PvP. The previous system had what might be called a "loophole" for PvE players that has now been closed.

My argument is if they truly wanted everyone to play both play styles they should have made more maps and play types for Crucible. I don't even play PVP, but I can just imagine the repetition involved in playing the same thing over and over as well as a shitacular reward system for the top players in matches.

Level 30 doesn't matter at all in crucible as well as upgrading anything past their abilities so ascendant materials are useless to PvP players anyway. Not the best arguement.

Really? What about for Iron Banner? This forum post complains about the fact that iron banner was here twice, so why would PVP players want to get wrecked in that event due to not having maxed weapons and being a lower level?
-
What reason do they have to play it?

No you can get 30 with Iron banner gear now you dont need to pve ever again just to get 30,& the perks are better than raid gear perks,I dont even wear my raid gear except on tuesdays & only then for the extra defense for raid.

Ok, I thought only 2 IB pieces capable of 30 light were available, meaning you'd need one Exotic and one or two Raid pieces to reach lvl 30. My mistake. Still, you still need to play PvE to get a meaningful amount of Ascendant materials to upgrade Legendary gear.

Ahh yeah your right you still need the helmet from hard raid or an exotic
