If not done incorrectly it would have made an exploit loop.
Also getting marks is very easy as opposing to getting materials which is a tedious time consuming task.

Depends. Relic iron you can force s pawn really really easy. Spirit bloom is everywhere. And spin metal not to bad. But how would it loop? I don't understand? Seems it wouldn't be able to exploit. 20 material for however many marks (i forget) and have the reciprocal be the same. So if u like farming u can get marks. If u like crucible u can get materials.

Pre patch you could sell mats for marks, glimmer and rep if i'm not mistaken 50 mats for 5 marks, 250 glimmer and 10 rep. Post patch you can sell marks for mats. 10 marks for 20 mats If both are in game and if done wrong you can exploit this. Even if the trade was equal. You could exploit it to get glimmer and rep easily.

Edited by Red Frog: 12/3/2014 5:09:58 PMThe mark cap itself prevents any meaningful gain to glimmer or rep. I don't see any way this could be an exploit with the pathetic conversion rates and caps already in place. If someone wants to blow 1000 mats on marks, then turn around and blow them on mats just for rep, so be it. After that, they're done. No more marks for the week and their stack of 1000 just turned into 200. Still have to go farm 800 for next week.

Gaining rep at least and in this case the cap on marks does not matter. Because you spend and gain.

Edited by Red Frog: 12/3/2014 5:18:46 PMThe cap is, quite literally, all that matters. It cannot be circumvented. 100 a week, no more. All the gathering, all the Crucible, all the strikes in the world aren't going to take you to 101 marks for the week.
