Destiny remote play on PS Vita

My situation... I want to play destiny while at work because I live at work.. Literally. I work on an offshore rig for 7 days on then go home for 7 days. Those 7 days off I try to get as much Destiny play time as possible but never enough. I'm close enough to shore (8 miles) to get 4g connection on my phone and it's good enough signal to play Netflix and such. We also have a wifi hotspot I can use but it's the type that brings you to a web page to log in. I ran across a YouTube video of the PS Vita and the remote play feature for Destiny and this caught my attention and instantly I want 1 to play Destiny at work. Am I understanding how this remote play feature works? Example: ps4 connected to Internet at home, ps vita connected to Internet at work and I can play my copy of Destiny that is currently in my ps4 at home. Does it actually work good enough for me to run patrols and do bounties ect..?? Will I be able to connect to my wifi at work if it's the type that takes you to a web page to log in? Please reply with answers/thoughts on this and explanations if I'm completely wrong on how this works. Thanks

  • If successful it is useful for doing your farming, patrols and easy bounties. Wouldn't expect too much from it. Handy tool through that I do use.

  • Yes you can but it is extremely temperamental. Running iff home wifi works a treat but from a secondary internet source, you need a different setup. Several guides on youtube. Also worth looking up the ability to hook a ps4 controller to vita. I do it and it makes gaming a million times better. You can actually hook the feed from your vita to a TV combined with a ps4 remote and stream games straight to the tv via vita!

  • Please edit your post and change #Gaming to #Destiny. You have posted in the wrong forum/tag. You will get a better response in #Destiny. #Gaming is for actual gaming discussion about other games as Destiny has already got many dedicated forums. Good luck and Thank you

    • In my research, yes your right and you can do what you want to do but I haven't had any luck yet. At home it works fine even PVP worthy. I live 1.4 km away (0.87 miles) from work, tried everything but it won't work for me. In theory Remote play requires your PS4 will need to be connected via Ethernet at home with good internet and in standby mode (so you remote boot it up). Minimum speeds requirements from Sony for remote play to work over the internet are 5mbps down and 1mbps up. Here's my setup and what I've tried; PS4 is connected via Ethernet at home. Vita connected to work WIFI or tethered to my 4G LTE mobile. I change a few router settings like narrowed down the band of addresses on my router, reduce the random internet noise when powering up the PS4 and opened a few ports for Remote Play so it will work away from home but it still isn't working! I've spent about 2 afternoons trying to get this working but still nothing.......

    • it'll be hard to use precision weapons but doable. like other said, make sure you have a really good connection. i imagine it'll work better like that instead of in the house. i go in the next room with one wall between and i lose connection occasionally. stupid walls...

Yes, you can play remotely as long as the wifi connection is good. The lag time is about the same as the controller used in front of the TV (which is barely any lag at all). There's one guy who tested it from NY to his home in NJ. It really all just depends on your wifi connection and if your ps4 is connected with a LAN cable. Look up videos of people testing out their vita's.

    • I feel your pain! I work on a tugboat and have a wife and kid at home. So not much destiny time. But you are in luck. I bought a ps vita 2 days ago. It's outstanding at home so I thought I would try the remote play at work. We don't have wifi but I used my phones hotspot to connect to my ps vita for Internet access and then connected that to my ps4 via remote play.. I have 4G lte service because I'm on a boat that works in town. But I ran patrol missions and a strike before I had to actually work. After I connected my ps vita to my phone I did a speed test on the vita and got like 7 down and 6 up so it wasn't too bad. I just recommend having your ps4 wired directly to your internet. Not wireless. You need a fast connection at home to make this work better. Remember to leave your ps4 in standby mode so you can use remote play. And remember to link the vita and ps4 at home. It works great for me. And when your done playing you just put the ps4 back in standby mode. It was awesome! Seriously! If there are people complaining it's because of a bad connection. The controls are mapped great! I do recommend getting the holder for the vita that looks like the controller. It made 100% difference in game play. Good luck!
