They could have quite easily left it in and just added the new purchase option.
I think, like myself, a number of you probably played the beta and thought "Yeah, this is the game for me" and either pre-ordered it or if you already did that, upgraded your pre-order.
The materials exchange in the beta made me think there was going to be a fair amount of potential in the final release and there was... until they decided to change the game after just 3 months of being out.
What is it with the games industry and constantly changing stuff?
Fixing bugs is one thing and implementing improvements across a series due to fan requests is cool too, but altering the game your customers originally started playing from day of release is not necessarily a foot in the right direction at times.
