So if Anikin Skywalker (darth vader) could have been the most powerful sith, what happened? Why was he so easily bested by his mentor Obiwan, if Obiwan was no more powerful than any other Jedi. How did the whole turning of Anikin to the dark side work into darth sidious' plan to exterminate the Jedi? It appears he was used as a tool Also, how powerful was Obiwan?

  • Anakin never got to live up to his potential. He's considered to be the son of the force almost.

Obi Wan Kenobi was no regular Jedi. He was probably one of the best of his time, only second to Yoda and maybe Mace Windu (dueling that is). He was a master duelist and even better with the force. And he was used as a tool. Darth Sidious detected his potential and wished to utilize it and make him his apprentice. Vader wasn't necessary to throw over the Republic.
