Devs, Mods, Ninjas, and Community Managers can't say it, but you're idiots.
You really want to leave the Exotics behind? No?
Then you want your exotics maxed to the new level without work, lessening play time and content? No?
Guess you're just an idiot.
Edit: Here's a good idea, too (from this thread, at that):
LusciousNips34:
People are complaining about the way Bungie has gone about it. They could have just added extra nodes to the gun/armor that would have taken just as much work to upgrade, but no, that would have made too much sense.

Edited by ROOT3R: 12/6/2014 1:05:15 AMI agree with both of the OP's "NO" answers, but there is one that has been left out: Do you want your time invested the last few months trying to grow to become legend devalued. This answer is also NO. What am I talking about they are not harming anyone just letting them take their prized guns to the next level! Well let's think about it a little more and try to see what the real issue is at hand: A brand new exotic with no upgrades done at all and a fully upgraded exotic weapon with materials and time invested are actually at the exact same starting point for the dlc exotic upgrades. In case you are wondering this change actually benefits me greatly! Since I have 2 exotic weapons fully maxed and like 12 at base level. I feel like I hit the jackpot!! I saved hours upon hours of grinding xp, bounties, materials that I could have invested to upgrade them. Now because of the announced new exotic upgrade model I do not have to. I get to skip to the start of the next dlc exotic level and upgrade from there. Boom I win! So should I tell everyone who is upset to "STFU because they are little whiny babies?" And to "just do it again who cares what time you put into it you enjoyed it!" NO? If I get to feel extremely lucky that I don't have to upgrade my old exotics to be able to start dlc upgrading than I also have to understand the other side of the coin and let them feel just as frustrated. I get where it's coming from for those who did work to max their exotics. I also would not have felt left out or hurt if I was told you have to upgrade your exotics fully to be able to then trade them in and be able to upgrade them to the next level. I already knew if i wanted the higher 300 damage from them i was required to upgrade them. I already expected I would have to upgrade them not the reverse. It is a huge gift to have the chance to catch up instantly and a huge slap in the face to those who already put in the time. Right!? I have heard people say "this is like prestige mode!" Let's clarify - this is like getting Prestige Master (prestige 10 lvl 55) then have them say "we are going to allow you to reach a new level Prestige God. You get to prestige up to 12 lvl 55 and get new added in game benefits. If you have already made progress towards Prestige Master then you will have the choice to remain with the normal Prestige Master cap or you can choose to upgrade to reach Prestige God. If you choose to follow the new prestige path all your progression will be reset. The choice is yours if you want to become a Prestige God. If you are just starting you can just progress normally up to Prestige God. Thank you enjoy our gracious gift. TL;DR There is more to this issue than "brainwashed desticles who don't understand the problem" and "entitled whinybabies who are mad they can't be special" Time, for the majority of people, is the most precious commodity in real life or in game. If you didn't invest the time you likely feel lucky and are ok with the system. If you did invest the time you are likely upset and feel it was wasted. I believe Bungie's purpose is to not leave any casual or new gamer behind.
