Like everyone else I read the latest details on the upcoming “expansion” The Dark Below.
After doing my fair share of complaining I decided to do some research and found it interesting, thought I would share.
Who is Eris?
“Eris will send you on a quest that will take you through the new story content of the expansion [in The Dark Below].”
“There's a new vendor character in the Tower, with a pretty interesting story to tell, that you'll be able to experience and play through once you buy the DLC. Her name is Eris. She's going to send you on a mission against the Hive to help stop Crota and his efforts to invade and take over the Solar System.”

Other than that, not much else is known about the mysterious character. I took a quick peek at my grimoire cards and didn’t find a single mention of her. Eris is an interesting name and not surprisingly, also has roots in both mythology and astronomy. Here are some interesting things from Wiki
Eris the Dwarf Planet.
- Eris is the most massive known dwarf planet in the Solar System and the ninth most massive body known to directly orbit the Sun.
- It is a trans-Neptunian object [meaning further away than Neptune] and a member of a high-eccentricity population known as the scattered disc. It has one known moon, Dysnomia
- Eris and Dysnomia are currently the most distant known natural objects in the Solar System
- The dwarf planet was originally named Xena because the research team liked the TV show Xena, The other science committees did not like this and they were forced to choose another name.
- It's moon originally named after Xena’s sidekick Gabrielle, but was changed to Dysnomia after Xena became Elris.
Eris the Greek goddess and her daughter Dysnomia
- Eris is the Greek goddess of chaos, strife and discord. [Sounds a lot like Xena to me]
- She is Zeus’ daughter (aren’t they all) and it just so happens her brother is Ares (God of War)
- Eris herself had a daughter named Dysnomia, who’s known as a daemon of lawlessness.
- The most famous tale of Eris goes a little something like this…I hide this to prevent TLDR, but it's great.
We all know of Achilles and the Trojan War, but before he was born his mother and father (Peleus and Thetis) held an epic wedding and invited almost everyone from Olympus. Left off of that guest list was our girl Eris (most likely cause she’s a trouble maker). This pissed her off and together with her Daddy Zeus hatched a plan for payback. She had a pristine golden apple created with a message saying something like "For the most beautiful one". All the other goddess’ began fighting about who’s the hottest and it was decided (by Zeus) that this guy Paris (Prince of Troy) would have to decide who got the apple. This luck dude got to see all the goddess’ strip down and they all tempted him with divine gifts. In the end he chose Aphrodite (goddess of love) because she offered him the most beautiful of all wives…Helen of Sparta. Commence war!
There you have it, a little background to Eris that I found fascinating. One thing’s for sure, she’s gonna be one badass chick.
Also NEPTUNE REVEALED DECEMBER 9 lol not.
