First off I would like to extend my apologies to Bungie for not actually following their tech support advice, and for openly blaming them for errors that were being caused on my end. So... I am sorry for being rude and thanks for the great game. Now allow me to make up for it, by explaining the actual problem people are facing with Caterpillar and Hawk.
If you are having problems with Hawk and Caterpillar error codes, it is actually the basic factory set up on your modem and not a server issue/error..
If you call BS on that , well i'll ask this question. Have you set up a static ip for your xbox/playstation?
If your answer is NO, then you don't have an assigned IP (static IP), and your problem is that your modem is assigning your console random IPs while you are playing, which is causing your connection issues.

Playstation 4

Xbox360

Playstation 3

If someone in your home is streaming videos or movies while you're playing (including you), your low bandwidth could be causing the same issues.
If you want too Port Forward for the best connection possible for Destiny and all of your other online games

Remember when portforwarding use the IP address of your console and not your computer's.
I hope that helps> see you on xbl
*edit: addendum*
*PS DO NOT port forward UNLESS you have already CREATED your STATIC IP, or it will make your connection to Destiny, WORSE, not BETTER.
SET UP YOUR STATIC IP FIRST, THEN PORT FORWARD!
one more time for the back row, set up your IP in the way suggested in the links above before you try port forwarding.
