UPDATE
Activision says its just this week and that the first week DLC comes out this may happen.
Would have been smarter to say this BEFORE making such a drastic decision. Corporate communications 101 - Prevention is always better than reaction.

Logged on to the app this morning to check out the new gear from vendors including Eris and legendaries then look at the weekly nightfall and heroic.
Quite surprised it is the new DLC Omnigul strike.
Yes, it came out yesterday and they want many of us to buy it BUT weeklies are the only guaranteed way to earn strange coins!
While I understand the desire to promote the DLC, it seems unfair to remove an option that has become ingrained in the Destiny economy, worse with needing the coins to upgrade exotics at Xur this weekend (everyone wants a stronger gun even if they don't have the DLC).
I was planning to get the DLC anyway but I feel like I'm being unfairly punished this week for not getting it yet.
Am I alone on this or am I taking strange coins too seriously and should just go shoot some Hive?

I'm relieved to see an intelligent conversation in here about this topic. I've been in the Main Forums today reading through all the backlash about this, and most intelligent posts are met with "Buy the DLC. It's Only $20 Cheapskate" Can't say I'm surprised of course. I bought DLC, so it doesn't really affect me. But I still feel the need to stick up for those who haven't and find themselves missing out on strange coins this week. I agree, players who bought DLC should be rewarded with options to play the new strikes. But penalizing players who haven't forked up the cash is a really shitty way to implement the DLC content. Any Add on packs should be simply that. Add On Packs. They add to the current game, not replace things. Its not just about buying DLC either. In my eyes its about Long Term Scaleability and character progression. At Level 26-27, those strikes and nightfalls really help people to progress to lvl 28 and 29. If which each new DLC they remove the lower level and make the Weekly/Nightfall higher level, then we'll end up with a massive gap between lvl 24, and say lvl 36. All of a sudden they'll be no weekly activities to earn rewards for lvl 26/27 players.
