A malicious chill raced for his face like a feral beast, savage and starving for warm flesh. The low sun's autumn warmth, fleeting and distant, slipped away from his back. Never before had he stood at the edge between tranquility and calamity.
Before him--far before him--lied a landscape of dreadful beauty. Tall and proud, the northern mountain peaks stretched forth to the heavens rapidly being blackened by the storm's veil of grey. The shadows of despair overthrew the rich, green grasses below, suffocating the lingering sunlight into nothing but wisps of memory barely seen from beneath the clouds. The opulent rays of gold died amidst showers of a cold downpour ravaging the earth. The prosperous life dwelling below vanished into the shrouds of southern trees, desperate to avoid the tempest hunting them.
There was no escape. He watched as the sea of grey clouds marched for him like a massive army, hungry and impatient for his demise. Without much more than a long breath, they swallowed up the sky and the hope of the sun. Even the majesty of the distant mountains faded from sight. All that remained in the wake of the storm was a void. And upon his shoulders, fell the weight of the world's tears of sorrow and misery.
At the heart of anguish's liberation, he stepped away from the cliff's edge. With the profound burden of the squall's cold tears on his back, he departed into the desolate wilderness awaiting ever patiently for his lonely company, never to find emancipation from his own torment.
