Studies show consistently happy people believe they don't need exact or even substantial control over their lives. They live in the moment and roll with the punches. The way people are talking about these new changes makes them seem very impatient and angry, on a basic level, independent of these environmental influences. Okay, I'm done about that...
Now, the DLC offers new challenges and offers ways of keeping us playing as much of the game as possible. How y'all don't get this is a good thing is beyond me. Like, did you complain when you had to level up your new Guardian to trade out old gear earlier in the game? No. Why now, then? Is it because you've become too complacent after hitting high levels and getting your legendaries? Maybe it's because you seem to have forgotten about the expected longevity of this Destiny thing (only about 10 years left). This game will have tons of likeable updates and dislikable updates. This should be understood as opinionated, but it's this way for all of us.
Now that you have to put in work to hit the level cap again, people say it's become disgraceful and unbelievable and too difficult and blah blah blah... It's a game. Yes, it does have breaks and bugs and questionable systems in place, and the weekly playlist has been exposed as very troublesome. BUT it's an on-going process, in which the game and gamer will experience changes.
And still, all things considered, it is a game designed to be sold for money and played for fun and drawn out for almost another decade. Seriously, the longevity thing is a huge deal, as this "tiering" process, or something similar, will probaly happen again and again. Do some research and you'll find this isn't a first in gaming history.
However, if you're easily over-attached to gear, dislike the grind, argue there is too little content to this DLC (which is debatable), and/or are getting frustrated by the game's direction; it should be clear this game might not be for you. It's for as many people will buy and play it, and apparently there are those immune to Bungie's charms.
TL;DR - the game will progress one way or another, regardless of community frustration, for a long time (that's the plan, at least). New level caps and better gear will keep coming. Materialism is cancer.
