Polygons most recent review of destiny strikes a few chords.

http://www.polygon.com/2014/12/15/7393695/destiny-dark-below-punishing-hardcore So I'd like to point out first and foremost, I don't care about all the people who will inevitably call me a crybaby. This is just something I read that I think brings up some valid points. I don't agree with all of them, and as I always say I'll keep playing, because I live destiny. Sometimes a company makes a few bad decisions, as there just trying to get a feel for things, and are trying to find new ideas to help push the players or give them something they want. You can't always buy someone the gift they want, sometimes they won't like it, it's inevitable. Bottom line, I hope bungie fixes some of the issues addressed. I know that the honest truth is this Is a complex game to make everyone not just happy with, but comfortable with. Deej I hope your reading this, I want you to know that I trust bungie to make us happy, and look forward to seeing you find your footing with the community. Let me point out though I do disagree with what he says about the raid, he is clearly an idiot, the reupgrading to me is no issue, and any points about grinding are null and void to me, that being said I do agree that legendary resets should happen, since it's so easy to level the new gear and get to 31 it would be nice to see some variety in armor like boost ghost angel or starwinder gear and the old raid stuff we all want to look unique so I'd love to see that implimented.

  • Mmm yeah some of the ideas felt more valid, some invalid. On the topic of exotic resets, while it DOES punish proportionally to dedication, I don't think people realise how much easier exotics are to level at this point. Since about... this Saturday I think? I've been dumping bounties exclusively into my Bad Juju and Thorn. One is maxed and the other is 3 nodes away from max. While it is a blow and I think they should make the intent of the reset progression stay while smoothing it out, it doesn't really sting as much when stuff levels so quickly. Remember, we get like 3-4 new Eris bounties a day + exotics level faster than before. So dedicated players with 3 chars will have no problem getting back up to speed on their favorite exotics. I just wanted to say that because it seems overblown all around the place.

  • Here is the thing. I don't mind radiant materials. But what I think Bungie should have done is actually play their game. Xur should sell upgrade kits for legendaries or exotics for motes of light. Have them be random between types of gear. One week he sells Helmet upgrades. Next week fusion rifles. Then you take your maxed item and go to the gunsmith for weapons or the outfitter for armor. Pay 7000 glimmer for the upgrade with the upgrade kit and you get am upgraded item in return. I would still have it stripped of its progression. This makes 2 useless vendors useful again This allows us to choose the item we want to upgrade and allows us to have some diversity in our armor All CE gear can remain at their current light 36 level and raid weapons at 331 max attack The upgrade kits would increase weapon attack by 31 or light by 6 and a similar defense increase for armor Can you get to level 31 with tower gear? Yes. But not immediately and no need for stupid commendations. Can you get to level 32 without TDB? Yes By upgrading your VoG gear.

  • As far as the armor and weapons go, the mistake is that we don't really increase in level, or at least, not that much. Take a typical MMO-RPG (I know, I know "Destiny isn't an MMO!" It is close enough): with an expansion there would be a level cap increase that would involve swapping out all gear. But the current gear would be enough to get you close to the new end game, and then we would have to going out proper raid gear. And you would (at some point) be able to buy/find gear that is better then the pre - expansion gear you already have. The problem is that with Destiny, that increase is only 2 levels, and that new gear is available right away, and in some cases (raid) necessary right away. Because, truly, if one thought we would never have to replace our armor/weapons, they weren't paying attention. But is has happened a bit faster than I think we expected. As far as the exotic mess is concerned, at least they are giving an upgrade option. How much more would it suck to have to FIND all the exotics first and then re level them? It would be nice if there was some sort of "return on investment" for upgrading exotics, but it could have been worse. (And yes, that is a scary thought, and not a very good argument). All in all, it seems that things are boiling down to a disturbing standard for Destiny: it isn't what was done that is annoying players, but how it was done (or why). Still, I'm having a blast with TDB. The hive always seems to creep me out....

      • I really enjoy playing Destiny but, I have to admit a lot of what Bungie has done in the last couple patches really rubbed me the wrong way. I've played every day for at least an hour or so since launch and I really don't appreciate being punished just because I've spent a lot of time playing. It really just seems like they are doing everything possible to kill Destiny and I really hope we've seen the worst as I'm not sure how much more players like myself can withstand before just saying -blam!- it, this isn't worth it.

I don't see the point in complaining about getting to level 32 so fast when there won't be any level 32+ content until January 15th. Let's wait until then to cry.

          • At the end of the day I don't give a shit about anyone's opinion but my own, but whoever wrote that opinion piece just comes across as a whiney bitch who doesn't want to work for anything.

            • This article is, for lack of better words, -blam!-ing stupid. He uses basic math not considering a multitude of variables as far as farming and acquiring materials goes. On top of that, and more importantly, he is speaking as another spoiled gamer that needs to have everything handed to him to be happy. This game is working as it should. I'll admit, I'm a bit peeved about re leveling my exotics, but it's not a huge deal because I play at least 6 hours a day. Without anything to level it feels pointless at times. I live for the raid, and will gain radiant materials as I go, which is good, because that means it will take time to max level. which is a good thing.
