Crota's Raid, raid loot system, and exotic rant

1st Point: So last night I was at the boss fight for the third time trying to finish off Crota before the reset. Our clan was short 2 raiders, and so we found a couple of able bodies to help us out. One player having beaten the raid twice already, and claiming to be excellent with the sword. It took about 4 attempts to get our communication down/timing down, and Crota went down. Very satisfying feeling, except not so much. It did feel great to kill Crota, but what does the "team" really do? It's all about the sword bearer. If your sword bearer is good, everyone else just needs to avoid being shot and kill the nights and ogres. Isn't this the very reason Bungie patched the vault of glass to pick 3 random players to teleport instead of the 3 furthest players during the Aetheon encounter? "The encounter goal for Atheon is to act as a climax and the culmination of learning for a given Raid group. Part of that is making sure that each player in your group can perform every job as required. A change will take effect next week which fixes a bug with Atheon's target selection. When using its Timestream ability, Atheon will select 3 players at random, instead of choosing the three players furthest from it." http://www.bungie.net/7_Bungie-Weekly-Update---10172014/en/News/News?aid=12295 Don't get me wrong, I like the new raid. I enjoy the difficulty, but hate the fact that the last encounter really rests in the hands of 1 person. 2nd point: As many have said already, but I'll bring up again...the new loot system is flawed. The materials required for upgrading raid materials are way to scarce for anyone. I'll effectively need to raid with 3 characters just to get one to level 32, and even then most of my raid weapons will be inferior to vendor weapons as I'll never have enough Radiant Energy to upgrade them fully. Not to mention the fact that whatever armor piece drops I am stuck with regardless of stats, because I can't afford to spend the shards to upgrade another piece. Either give us new ways to earn the Radiant materials, or revert all the upgrades to Ascendant shards. Otherwise this roadblock to progression begins to look like a cheap way to extend the life of the DLC, at the expense of your gamers.(Who have already incurred the expense of purchasing the DLC, they shouldn't have to pay for it again with lack of progress). 3rd Point: Exotics...what a mess. Let first say that I understand at every expansion the gear and weapons are made obsolete and new items replace the old. I also appreciate the fact that we can keep our favorite exotic pieces and upgrade them to relevance in the new DLC. That being said the system you have laid out is punishing the most active players. Those of us that grinded and searched for every exotic we could get...and ultimately upgraded them all, now need to spend ridiculous amounts of time farming glimmer, materials, and exp to purchase upgrades and re-level them again. The system is flawed and a major slap in the face to your most dedicated players. Charging 1 or even 2 exotic shards with a glimmer fee to upgarde your exotic is understandable, but you shouldn't lose the exp you invested into it. I know the damage starts at 306 in the 2.0 weapons, but the point is that your asking us to sink all that time into the weapon again. Just add 3 new slots to upgrade and let players upgrade from wherever they left off on there 1.0 weapon. Thus not punishing the dedicated player, and not rewarding the non-dedicated player. (This would have a negative impact on me as well, I did not upgrade all of my exotics. I just believe it is a fairer system) Rant over...

  • About point one: I can totally see them having one of the hard mode disadvantages being that you can only pick up the sword one time. Having that way would require everyone to be good with the sword just like everyone having to learn the relic in vault. However that is just my theory
